Main application area
The lumbar region bears the greatest axial load, so it is here that protrusions and disc herniations most often form with pain radiating to the leg. Traction reduces pressure inside the disc and reduces root compression, which relieves pain and increases range of motion. The method is used in the subacute phase, when the most acute pain has already subsided, and in combination with physical therapy and massage.
The contraindications are the same and they are strict: sequestered hernia, severe spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, osteoporosis, tumor processes and recent injuries. Therefore, the appointment is always preceded by an MRI - without it, traction for lumbar pain cannot be performed.
What is included in a bed day
A bed-day is not just a place in a ward. This includes meals, prescribed medications, dressings and procedures, as well as 24-hour supervision by a nurse and daily examination by the attending physician.
The room category determines the level of comfort: the number of beds, the presence of a private bathroom, TV and additional amenities. The scope of medical care is the same for all categories; the household component differs.
When is a hospital needed?
- after operations requiring observation on the first day
- after spinal and general anesthesia
- during a course of intravenous treatment
- for conditions requiring round-the-clock monitoring
How many days will it take
After most outpatient interventions, one hospital day is enough - discharge occurs the next morning. After major operations, the period is determined by the attending physician based on the condition: wound healing, temperature, restoration of bowel function and urination.
