Sinusitis (sinusitis)
Sinusitis is an inflammation of the maxillary (maxillary) sinus, the most common type of sinusitis. Almost every runny nose is accompanied by mild inflammation of the sinuses, and in most cases it goes away on its own within 7–10 days. The problem begins when swelling blocks the anastomosis - a narrow channel connecting the sinus to the nasal cavity. The mucus stops flowing, bacteria multiply in the closed cavity, and bursting pain and purulent discharge appear. The good news is that a puncture is rarely required today, but the bad news is that neglected sinusitis easily becomes chronic.

Sore throat (acute tonsillitis)
Sore throat, or acute tonsillitis, is an inflammation of the tonsils. The main practical question for a sore throat is not “what to gargle with,” but “what kind of sore throat is it?” The vast majority of cases are caused by viruses and go away on their own, and antibiotics are useless. But in about every fifth adult, and more often in children, the cause is group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus - and it is this that can cause complications in the heart, joints and kidneys. It is possible to distinguish them, and for this there is a simple test that takes a few minutes.

Rhinitis (runny nose)
Rhinitis is inflammation or persistent swelling of the nasal mucosa, which causes the nose to become stuffy, runny, or unable to detect odors. A common cold goes away in a week and does not require anything other than patience and saline solution, but there is a special form of runny nose that a person creates for himself: medicinal rhinitis from vasoconstrictor drops. This is the most common reason why people walk around with a bottle in their pocket for years and cannot sleep without it. The rule here is simple and strict: vasoconstrictor drops and sprays are used no longer than 5-7 days in a row. Then the mucous membrane ceases to maintain vascular tone on its own, the swelling returns faster and faster, the dose increases, and a real addiction is formed, from which it is already difficult to get out without a doctor.

Chronic tonsillitis
Chronic tonsillitis is a constantly smoldering inflammation of the palatine tonsils, in which they turn from a protective organ into a source of infection. Typical complaints are periodic sore throat, white “plugs” with an unpleasant odor, constantly enlarged lymph nodes and fatigue. The main question that concerns patients is whether to remove or preserve tonsils. The answer depends not on the presence of plugs or the size of the tonsils, but on whether there are signs of a toxic-allergic effect on the body.

Adenoiditis in children
Adenoids are a collection of lymphoid tissue in the vault of the nasopharynx, part of the child’s immune defense. They physiologically increase at 3–7 years of age, and gradually decrease by adolescence. Adenoiditis is an inflammation of this tissue, acute or chronic: it swells, blocks nasal breathing and becomes a source of infection. The child breathes through his mouth, snores in his sleep, nasally, has a constant runny nose and mucus running down the back wall of the throat. What matters is not so much the “degree” in the image, but how the child breathes and sleeps: it is sleep disturbance and repeated otitis that determine whether surgery is needed.

Adenoids
Adenoids are a growth of the pharyngeal tonsil, located in the nasopharynx, where it cannot be seen during a normal examination of the mouth. This is an exclusively children’s problem: the pharyngeal tonsil is active until about 7 years of age, and by adolescence it decreases on its own. The main danger of adenoids is not the growth itself, but its consequences: the child stops breathing through the nose, snores, breathing stops during sleep, hearing, bite and development suffer. That is why the decision is made not by the “degree in the picture”, but by what the adenoids do to the child.

Allergy to dust and house dust mites
An allergy to house dust is, in most cases, a reaction not to the dust itself, but to the microscopic mites that live in it, or more precisely to the proteins of their particles. Ticks do not bite and are invisible to the eye; they feed on skin particles and thrive in mattresses, pillows, carpets and soft toys. Since exposure occurs daily, symptoms persist year-round and are worse at night and in the morning, as well as when cleaning and changing the bed. Untreated year-round rhinitis impairs sleep and performance and increases the risk of bronchial asthma, so it is worth dealing with it seriously.

Sore throat in children
Sore throat, or acute tonsillitis, is an inflammation of the tonsils with sore throat, fever and enlarged cervical lymph nodes. In children, most episodes are caused by viruses and go away on their own, but some cases are associated with group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus - it is this form that must be treated with an antibiotic to prevent purulent and late complications. It is difficult to distinguish one from the other by eye: plaque on the tonsils also occurs with a viral infection. Hints help - the age of the child, the absence of a cough and runny nose, the nature of the fever, as well as an express test or throat culture prescribed by a doctor.

Aerootitis (ear barotrauma)
Aerootitis is damage to the middle ear due to a sharp change in atmospheric pressure: most often when an airplane descends, less often during scuba diving or in a pressure chamber. Normally, the eustachian tube opens when swallowing and equalizes the pressure behind the eardrum. If the tube is swollen due to a runny nose or allergies, air does not pass through, a vacuum is created in the middle ear, the membrane is retracted, the vessels become overfilled, and fluid or blood may leak into the cavity. Congestion, bursting pain and hearing loss appear. In most cases, the condition goes away within a few days, but prolonged or very severe pain requires examination by an ENT doctor.

Meniere's disease
Meniere's disease is a disease of the inner ear associated with excessive accumulation of fluid in its cavities. It is manifested by repeated attacks: sudden severe rotational dizziness, which lasts from twenty minutes to several hours, accompanied by nausea and vomiting, noise and a feeling of fullness in the ear, as well as hearing loss. Between attacks, the person feels satisfactory, but over time, hearing on the affected side steadily deteriorates. Usually one ear is affected, most often in middle-aged adults. It is not yet possible to completely cure the disease, but proper treatment and regimen can significantly reduce the frequency and severity of attacks.
