Depression
Depression is a disease, not a weakness of character or “a bad mood that must be endured.” It is characterized by a persistent decline in mood, loss of the ability to experience pleasure and loss of energy, lasting at least two weeks and interfering with work, study and communication. Depression is highly treatable: a combination of psychotherapy and, if necessary, medication returns a person to normal life in most cases. The main obstacle is stigma: people do not seek help for years, believing that they must cope on their own.

Anxiety disorder
Anxiety disorder is a condition in which worry becomes excessive, persistent, and inappropriate to the actual threat. It ceases to be a useful defensive reaction and begins to control life: a person avoids situations, places and actions, the range of possibilities narrows. The peculiarity of anxiety disorders is that they manifest themselves primarily physically—palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness—and patients go to cardiologists and neurologists for years, receiving the conclusion “everything is fine.” Meanwhile, this is one of the most well-studied and most treatable conditions in psychiatry.

Panic attacks
A panic attack is a sudden attack of severe fear with violent bodily symptoms: the heart is pounding, lack of air, dizziness, arms going numb, feeling hot and cold. The main thing you need to know is that it sounds paradoxical: people don’t die or go crazy from a panic attack, although during an attack a person is sure of the opposite. The body does not break down at this moment - on the contrary, it turns on the ancient “fight or flight” reaction in full force, only without any real danger from outside. And second, no less important: this is not a fiction, not a pretense, and not a “weak character.” The attack actually occurs in the body, has measurable physiological manifestations, and is highly treatable.

ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)
ADHD is a condition in which a child has difficulty maintaining attention, regulating activity and restraining impulses, and not from time to time, as is the case with all children, but constantly, in all areas of life and noticeably stronger than in peers. Let's start with what's most important: ADHD is not the result of poor parenting, permissiveness, spoiling, or a weak character. It is based on the maturation and functioning of brain structures responsible for self-control and planning, and this is confirmed by both research and simple observation - a child with ADHD often sincerely wants to behave differently, but cannot. Strictness by itself does not solve this problem; It is decided by its structure, clear rules, support at school and, if necessary, the help of specialists.

Apathy
Apathy is a state in which desires, interest and motivation to do something disappear. A person does not suffer so much as he does not feel anything: events cease to please and upset, things are postponed not because of laziness, but because there is no impulse to start them. Short-term apathy after overload, illness or severe stress is natural and goes away with rest. If indifference lasts for weeks and interferes with work and communication, there is often a specific reason behind it: depression, burnout, thyroid dysfunction, anemia, vitamin deficiency, neurological disease or side effects of medications. Understanding the cause is important because treatment is different in each case.

Vaginismus
Vaginismus is an involuntary contraction of the muscles of the pelvic floor and lower third of the vagina, which makes penetration painful or completely impossible. The spasm occurs against the will of the woman: it is a protective reaction of the body, formed by the fear of pain, and not a reluctance to close. Not only sexual intercourse can interfere, but also the insertion of a tampon or examination by a gynecologist. The condition is more common than it seems and responds well to treatment: a combination of working with a psychologist, learning to relax the pelvic floor muscles and gradual exercise with dilators helps most women. Judging and trying to endure the pain only makes the problem worse.

Children's fears
Fears are a natural part of a child's development. They are different at every age: babies are afraid of loud noises and strangers, preschoolers are afraid of the dark, monsters and loneliness, schoolchildren are afraid of death, illness, bad grades and rejection by peers. Such fears indicate that imagination and thinking are developing normally, and usually gradually go away on their own. It is not the fears themselves that should cause anxiety, but their influence: if a child cannot sleep, refuses to go to school, has stopped communicating, has physical complaints or regression of skills, the help of a specialist is needed. Ridicule and pressure to “not be afraid” only worsens the problem.

Childhood neurosis (emotional disorder in a child)
Childhood neurosis is a collective name for emotional disorders in which a child reacts to stress with fears, anxiety and bodily complaints. Manifestations depend on age: babies become whiny, cling to their mother and sleep worse, preschoolers are afraid of the dark and separation, schoolchildren develop tics, nail biting, abdominal pain and headaches before school. The behavior is not a whim: the child cannot “pull himself together” because the nervous system does not yet know how to cope with overload. Such conditions can be easily corrected if the source of stress is removed, a routine is established, and a psychologist is involved in a timely manner. The calm reaction of parents plays a key role.

False pregnancy
False pregnancy is a condition in which a woman experiences convincing signs of pregnancy even though she is not. Menstruation stops, breasts become enlarged and painful, nausea and weight gain appear, the stomach grows, and sometimes there is a feeling of movement. The test is negative, and the ultrasound shows the uterus is empty. This is not pretense or fiction: the complaints are completely real and are associated with the complex interaction of the psyche and hormonal regulation. More often, the condition occurs in women with a strong desire to have a child or, conversely, with a pronounced fear of pregnancy. Help requires tact: an objective examination and psychological support are needed at the same time.

Eating disorders in children
An eating disorder in a child is a persistent refusal to eat or a sharply limited diet, which affects the nutrition, growth and mood of the family. In children, this is most often a refusal to try new things and eating “one spoon at a time”; in older children, it is eating three or four familiar dishes, an aversion to certain textures, and a fear of choking. It is important to distinguish between physiological selectivity, which is characteristic of the age of two to five years and goes away on its own, and a real disorder in which the child loses weight, does not gain height, or becomes deficient in iron and vitamins. Force feeding, persuasion and cartoons at the table almost always worsen the situation and perpetuate refusal.
