Viral hepatitis B and C
Viral hepatitis B and C are chronic infections that affect the liver and remain asymptomatic for years. This is their main danger: a person feels healthy until cirrhosis or liver cancer develops. However, the situation with their treatment has changed radically over the past decade. Hepatitis C today can be cured in the vast majority of cases with a course of tablets lasting 8-12 weeks. Hepatitis B cannot yet be completely cured, but it can be reliably controlled, and most importantly, there is a vaccine against it.

Flu
Influenza is also a viral respiratory infection, but there is a reason to distinguish it from the general group of acute respiratory viral infections: it is more severe and much more often causes complications from which people actually die. It is often possible to distinguish the flu from a cold by the onset of the illness. The usual ARVI creeps up: first the throat gets sore, then the nose gets stuffy, the temperature is moderate. The flu strikes suddenly - a person can often name the hour when he felt unwell: chills, temperature 38.5–40 ° C, tearing pain in muscles and joints, headache with pain in the eyeballs, and all this with an almost dry nose. A runny nose and cough come later. The second practical point: antiviral drugs for influenza exist and work, but only if you start them within the first 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. Later, the virus has already multiplied, and the meaning of therapy is lost.

COVID-19
COVID-19 has ceased to be an emergency, but has not disappeared: the SARS-CoV-2 virus continues to circulate and cause seasonal surges along with influenza and other respiratory infections. The picture has changed for two reasons - the virus has evolved to primarily affect the upper respiratory tract, and most people already have immune memory from infection, vaccination, or both. Therefore, today a typical case looks like a moderately severe ARVI: sore throat, runny nose, fever, cough, weakness for several days. But there is an important exception to this calm picture. For older adults, those with severe obesity, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and especially those with weakened immune systems, COVID-19 is still more dangerous than the common cold. The task of today is not panic or complete ignorance, but the ability to distinguish an ordinary case from a situation that requires a doctor.

Pulmonary tuberculosis
Pulmonary tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, also known as Koch's bacillus. It is transmitted through the air, which means that anyone can encounter it - in transport, in line, in the office, at a party. This is fundamentally important to understand, because there is still an unfair stereotype around tuberculosis: that only people without home and work suffer from it. In fact, teachers, students, drivers, doctors, entrepreneurs—those who have coincided with contact with the infection and temporarily weakened body defense—get sick. For Central Asia, the topic remains relevant, and the main practical rule is simple: a cough that lasts longer than two to three weeks is not a “lingering cold,” but a reason to take a photo of the lungs and give sputum. Tuberculosis is curable, and if detected in time, it is almost always curable.

Meningitis
Meningitis is an inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord. This is one of the few diseases where a delay of several hours changes the outcome: bacterial meningitis without treatment can lead to death within 24 hours, and antibiotic therapy started on time saves lives and prevents serious consequences. Therefore, if there is a combination of high fever, severe headache and the inability to press your chin to your chest, you should not “watch until the morning”, but call an ambulance.
