When is a blockade needed?
The blockade is used in cases of severe pain, when tablets and ointments are ineffective, and the pain deprives a person of sleep and the ability to move. The drug is injected into the paravertebral space near the exit of the nerve root: the anesthetic interrupts the pain impulse, and the glucocorticoid reduces swelling and inflammation around the root. Pain relief occurs within a few minutes and lasts from several days to several weeks.
It is important to understand: the blockade relieves pain, but does not eliminate its cause. This is not an independent treatment, but a way to interrupt the acute pain syndrome and get the opportunity to connect to the main therapy - physical therapy, massage, physiotherapy, which cannot be performed in the acute phase.
What is included in a bed day
A bed-day is not just a place in a ward. This includes meals, prescribed medications, dressings and procedures, as well as 24-hour supervision by a nurse and daily examination by the attending physician.
The room category determines the level of comfort: the number of beds, the presence of a private bathroom, TV and additional amenities. The scope of medical care is the same for all categories; the household component differs.
When is a hospital needed?
- after operations requiring observation on the first day
- after spinal and general anesthesia
- during a course of intravenous treatment
- for conditions requiring round-the-clock monitoring
How many days will it take
After most outpatient interventions, one hospital day is enough - discharge occurs the next morning. After major operations, the period is determined by the attending physician based on the condition: wound healing, temperature, restoration of bowel function and urination.
