How does traction work?
With dosed traction, the distance between the vertebrae temporarily increases, negative pressure is created inside the intervertebral disc, and the pressure on the nerve root and surrounding tissues is reduced. This reduces pain, swelling and muscle spasm. The procedure is prescribed for osteochondrosis of the cervical spine, protrusions, radicular syndrome with pain and numbness in the arm, as well as for headaches associated with neck pathology.
A prerequisite is a preliminary examination: in case of severe vertebral instability, osteoporosis, tumor process and after injuries, traction is contraindicated. Therefore, MRI or functional x-rays before the course are necessary. The course is usually 8–12 procedures.
What is included in a bed day
A bed-day is not just a place in a ward. This includes meals, prescribed medications, dressings and procedures, as well as 24-hour supervision by a nurse and daily examination by the attending physician.
The room category determines the level of comfort: the number of beds, the presence of a private bathroom, TV and additional amenities. The scope of medical care is the same for all categories; the household component differs.
When is a hospital needed?
- after operations requiring observation on the first day
- after spinal and general anesthesia
- during a course of intravenous treatment
- for conditions requiring round-the-clock monitoring
How many days will it take
After most outpatient interventions, one hospital day is enough - discharge occurs the next morning. After major operations, the period is determined by the attending physician based on the condition: wound healing, temperature, restoration of bowel function and urination.
