The third category involves placement in a ward with several beds while maintaining the entire necessary volume of medical care: nutrition, prescribed medications, pain relief and dressings. This option is chosen when the stay is short - one day after the intervention - and the level of household comfort is not decisive. It is important to understand that the category does not affect the quality of the operation performed or the scope of observation: doctor’s examination, condition monitoring and care are carried out to the same extent regardless of the room.
What is included in a bed day
A bed-day is not just a place in a ward. This includes meals, prescribed medications, dressings and procedures, as well as 24-hour supervision by a nurse and daily examination by the attending physician.
The room category determines the level of comfort: the number of beds, the presence of a private bathroom, TV and additional amenities. The scope of medical care is the same for all categories; the household component differs.
When is a hospital needed?
- after operations requiring observation on the first day
- after spinal and general anesthesia
- during a course of intravenous treatment
- for conditions requiring round-the-clock monitoring
How many days will it take
After most outpatient interventions, one hospital day is enough - discharge occurs the next morning. After major operations, the period is determined by the attending physician based on the condition: wound healing, temperature, restoration of bowel function and urination.
