What defines a category
The bed-day category reflects the level of comfort of the ward and the volume of medications and consumables included. The first category is a superior ward with individual accommodation, an expanded range of painkillers and dressings, including modern wound dressings. After proctological operations, this is especially significant: the first day is the most sensitive period, and the quality of pain relief directly determines the patient’s well-being. The scope of surgical care and observation is the same for all categories.
What is included in a bed day
A bed-day is not just a place in a ward. This includes meals, prescribed medications, dressings and procedures, as well as 24-hour supervision by a nurse and daily examination by the attending physician.
The room category determines the level of comfort: the number of beds, the presence of a private bathroom, TV and additional amenities. The scope of medical care is the same for all categories; the household component differs.
When is a hospital needed?
- after operations requiring observation on the first day
- after spinal and general anesthesia
- during a course of intravenous treatment
- for conditions requiring round-the-clock monitoring
How many days will it take
After most outpatient interventions, one hospital day is enough - discharge occurs the next morning. After major operations, the period is determined by the attending physician based on the condition: wound healing, temperature, restoration of bowel function and urination.
