What is being assessed
Fetometry (sizes of the head, abdomen, thigh) is compared with the term - the lag indicates a delay in fetal growth; Doppler analysis of the uterine arteries and umbilical cord artery reveals an increase in resistance during placental insufficiency and preeclampsia even before clinical signs, and blood flow in the middle cerebral artery of the fetus shows its compensatory reactions. Presentation, umbilical cord entanglement, maturity and location of the placenta, and amniotic fluid index are also assessed. Based on the results, the obstetrician-gynecologist adjusts the management of pregnancy; in case of deviations, dynamic monitoring and CTG are prescribed.
Indications
- pain in the lower abdomen, cycle disorders, heavy menstruation;
- fibroids, cysts and ovarian formations, endometriosis, polyps - detection and control;
- infertility - folliculometry, ovulation, endometrium;
- pregnancy - confirmation, timing, heartbeat, Doppler;
- preventive examination once a year.
Why ultrasound
Ultrasound is a safe imaging method without radiation: suitable for children, pregnant women and for repeated monitoring. The doctor sees organs in real time, assesses their structure, size and blood flow (in Doppler mode), and a conclusion with measurements is issued immediately after the study. The information content depends on the training and experience of the specialist; In the clinics below, ultrasound examinations are performed by ultrasound diagnostic doctors using expert-class devices.
