Bladder and prostate together
When complaining of a weak stream, nighttime urination and incomplete emptying, it is important to evaluate the entire system: the doctor measures the volume of the prostate (the norm is up to 25–30 cm³), the severity of the middle lobe protruding into the bladder, the thickness of the bladder wall and trabecularity (a sign of long-term obstruction), residual urine. These indicators determine the stage of the adenoma and the choice between observation, medications and surgery. For a detailed assessment of the structure of the prostate (nodes, suspicion of cancer with elevated PSA), a transrectal ultrasound is additionally performed.
Indications
- frequent, difficult or painful urination;
- blood in the urine, cystitis, suspicion of stones and bladder tumors;
- prostate adenoma - gland volume and residual urine;
- pain in the lower abdomen in women - joint assessment of the bladder, uterus and appendages;
- control after operations.
Why ultrasound
Ultrasound is a safe imaging method without radiation: suitable for children, pregnant women and for repeated monitoring. The doctor sees organs in real time, assesses their structure, size and blood flow (in Doppler mode), and a conclusion with measurements is issued immediately after the study. The information content depends on the training and experience of the specialist; In the clinics below, ultrasound examinations are performed by ultrasound diagnostic doctors using expert-class devices.
