Kidney blood flow
In color and spectral Doppler modes, the doctor measures blood flow velocity and resistance indices in the renal artery from the mouth to the segmental branches: acceleration of flow and turbulence indicate stenosis (vasorenal hypertension), increased resistance indices indicate parenchymal diseases and diabetic nephropathy, changes in an upright position indicate significant nephroptosis. The study requires good preparation (gases interfere with the inspection of the mouths); if the result is questionable, MSCT angiography of the renal arteries is performed.
Indications
- lower back pain, renal colic, suspicion of stones;
- changes in urine tests, blood in the urine;
- hypertension (excluding a renal cause), edema;
- cysts, tumors, developmental anomalies - detection and control;
- pyelonephritis, hydronephrosis - diagnosis and observation.
Why ultrasound
Ultrasound is a safe imaging method without radiation: suitable for children, pregnant women and for repeated monitoring. The doctor sees organs in real time, assesses their structure, size and blood flow (in Doppler mode), and a conclusion with measurements is issued immediately after the study. The information content depends on the training and experience of the specialist; In the clinics below, ultrasound examinations are performed by ultrasound diagnostic doctors using expert-class devices.
