Piriformis syndrome
A common cause of pain in the back of the leg is not a herniated disc, but a spasm of the piriformis muscle, through which the sciatic nerve passes. Massaging this area relaxes the muscle and relieves nerve compression, which often provides noticeable relief in just a few sessions. Before the course, it is important to clarify the cause of the pain: for a hernia with severe compression of the root, the tactics are different, and intense exposure in the acute period can intensify the symptoms.
What does massage give?
Massage improves blood circulation and lymphatic drainage in the affected area, relieves muscle spasm, reduces pain and increases mobility. For chronic back and neck pain, it is included in standard treatment regimens along with physical therapy.
The effect is cumulative: after one session, temporary relaxation occurs, and a lasting result appears by the end of a course of 8–10 procedures.
