Fluid in the pleura
Ultrasound detects already 20-50 ml of fluid (X-ray - from 200-300 ml), evaluates its volume by the height of the column, homogeneity (homogeneous - transudate, with fibrin threads and partitions - exudate during inflammation, heterogeneous - possible blood or pus), the condition of the adjacent lung (constriction, compaction). Under ultrasound guidance, a puncture is performed safely to remove fluid and analyze it. The study is indispensable for dynamic control - it is repeated without radiation exposure; The cause of the effusion is clarified by X-ray/MSCT and fluid analysis.
Indications
- thyroid nodules and enlargement, TSH changes;
- lumps and pain in the mammary gland, screening up to 40 years of age;
- enlarged lymph nodes of the neck, axillary and groin areas;
- soft tissue formations, groin hernias;
- fluid in the pleural cavity (pleurisy, hydrothorax).
