Final stage
When APTT and prothrombin are abnormally altered, thrombin time localizes the problem: isolated prolongation indicates fibrinogen (quantity or quality) or the presence of heparin in the sample. The test helps the hematologist identify rare dysfibrinogenemias and monitor therapy.
When is it appointed?
- preparation for operations is a mandatory block;
- taking anticoagulants (warfarin - INR) - dose control;
- thrombosis and miscarriage - search for thrombophilia;
- bleeding: bruises, nose, gums;
- pregnancy - planned control of hemostasis.
Coagulation system
Hemostasis balances between bleeding and thrombosis: screening tests (prothrombin/INR, aPTT, fibrinogen) evaluate the coagulation cascade, D-dimer catches active thrombus formation, special tests (lupus anticoagulant, genetics of thrombophilia) look for the cause of repeated thrombosis and pregnancy losses. Before any operation, a coagulogram is mandatory - hidden disorders are detected before the incision, and not during it.
