When you need the whole map
The panel is used for long-term conditions without a diagnosis: chronic inflammation of unknown localization, recurrent infections (immunoglobulins), hemolysis (haptoglobin), suspected Wilson's disease (ceruloplasmin) or alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (emphysema in non-smokers, liver damage). The kit is noticeably cheaper than the sum of the tests and is interpreted as a whole - a therapist or specialized specialist assembles diagnostic logic from fractions in one visit.
When is it appointed?
- chronic inflammation and autoimmune diseases - acute phase proteins;
- suspicion of monoclonal gammopathy, myeloma;
- liver and kidney diseases - protein synthesis and loss;
- alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (early emphysema, liver disease);
- disorders of copper and iron metabolism (ceruloplasmin, transferrin).
Proteins tell us about the system
A complex protein panel breaks down the total protein into functional fractions: acute-phase (CRP, haptoglobin, orosomucoid, alpha-1-antitrypsin) grow during inflammation, transport (transferrin, ceruloplasmin) reflect the metabolism of iron and copper, immunoglobulins (IgA, IgM, IgG, IgE) indicate the state of humoral immunity. Such a card is indispensable for unclear chronic conditions where individual tests do not add up to a diagnosis.
