Why is postoperative care needed?
After endoscopic sinus surgery, the outcome largely depends on proper healing. In the first weeks, crusts and fibrin clots form in the cavity, which can block the created anastomosis and lead to relapse. Regular probing and rinsing keeps the anastomosis open and speeds up the recovery of the mucosa. Typically, several procedures are prescribed during the first month after surgery.
Why are ENT procedures needed?
Many diseases of the ear, nose and throat are treated not only with pills: the medicine must be delivered directly to the source - to the sinus, to the tonsil lacuna, to the auditory tube. This is exactly what ENT manipulations do.
A course of procedures often allows you to do without antibiotics or sinus puncture, and in chronic forms, it can significantly increase the period of remission.
Main groups of procedures
- rinsing the nose and sinuses - removing mucus and pus, delivering an antiseptic
- procedures on the auditory tube - restoration of ventilation of the middle ear
- treatment of tonsils - washing out purulent plugs from lacunae
- local administration of drugs - behind-the-ear injections, intralaryngeal infusions
How many procedures are needed?
The standard course is from 3 to 7 procedures every other day. For chronic processes, courses are repeated 1–2 times a year. Improvement is usually felt after the first or second procedure, but you should not interrupt the course: incomplete treatment often ends in a return of symptoms.
