Prurigo (prurigo)
Prurigo, or prurigo, is a chronic skin disease in which dense, highly itchy nodules and nodes appear, most often on the extensor surfaces of the arms and legs, on the back and abdomen. The main feature is that the disease maintains itself: itching forces you to scratch the skin, scratching damages the nerve endings and intensifies the itching, and new dense elements form at the site of scratching. Prurigo can occur against the background of atopic dermatitis, as well as with internal diseases - liver and kidney diseases, diabetes, thyroid disorders, iron deficiency, and less often with blood diseases. Therefore, treatment always includes searching for the cause.

Bedsores
Bedsores are injuries to the skin and underlying tissues that occur due to prolonged pressure on the same areas of the body. The blood supply in these places stops, the cells die, and a wound is formed. People who cannot change position on their own are at greatest risk: after a stroke, spinal injury, major surgery, in old age and exhaustion. Favorite places are the sacrum, heels, shoulder blades, elbows, greater trochanters of the hips, and the back of the head. A bedsore can begin within a few hours of immobility and take months to heal, so the main thing in this topic is prevention: regular change of position, proper skin care and nutrition.

Herpes simplex (cold sores on the lips)
Herpes simplex on the lips is a viral infection most often caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1. Having become infected once, usually in childhood, a person remains a carrier: the virus “sleeps” in the nerve ganglia and when the protection is weakened, it comes out on the skin. An exacerbation begins with a burning sensation and tingling, then a group of painful blisters appears, which open and become crusty. For most people, the episode goes away on its own within 7–10 days. The danger is posed by frequent severe relapses, transmission of infection to the eyes, as well as infection of newborns and people with weakened immune systems. Antiviral drugs started in the first hours significantly reduce exacerbation.

Psoriatic arthritis
Psoriatic arthritis is a chronic inflammatory joint disease that develops in some people with psoriasis. The immune system attacks not only the skin, but also joints, tendon attachments to bones, the spine and nails. Most often, skin psoriasis appears first, and joint complaints appear years later, but in some patients the sequence is reversed. The severity of skin manifestations does not determine the severity of arthritis: extensive plaques can be combined with mild joint damage and vice versa. The disease can cause permanent destruction of joints, so early contact with a rheumatologist and timely initiation of therapy are fundamentally important.

Pemphigus (pemphigus)
Pemphigus is a rare autoimmune disease in which the immune system produces antibodies against proteins that hold skin and mucous cells together. The connections are destroyed, the cells are separated, and bubbles with a thin covering form in the thickness of the epidermis. They quickly open, leaving painful, weeping erosions that almost do not heal on their own. In more than half of patients, the disease begins in the mouth, so it has long been mistaken for stomatitis. Before the advent of modern treatment, the disease was fatal; Today it is well controlled, but requires long-term therapy under medical supervision and early recognition.

Skin spots
A spot is an area of skin that has changed color, but has retained its usual relief: it does not protrude or deepen, it cannot be felt. The color depends on what has changed: the amount of melanin pigment, the condition of the blood vessels, or the presence of foreign substances in the skin. White spots mean there is less pigment, brown spots mean there is more, red spots are usually associated with vasodilation or inflammation. Most spots are harmless and are associated with previous inflammation, sun exposure, or a fungal infection. Moles (nevi)
Moles, or melanocytic nevi, are benign accumulations of pigment cells in the skin. Most people have dozens of moles that appear in childhood and youth, and partially fade in old age. An ordinary mole is symmetrical, monochromatic, with smooth edges and does not change over the years. Nevi themselves are not dangerous, but a large number of them and some types are associated with an increased risk of melanoma, a malignant skin tumor that can arise from a mole or on clear skin. Therefore, it is important to know the signs of suspicious changes and regularly examine the skin. There is no need to remove moles without indication, and the removed tissue is always sent for histology.

Erysipelas (erysipelas)
Erysipelas, or erysipelas, is an acute bacterial infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissue caused by beta-hemolytic streptococcus. Bacteria penetrate through minor injuries: cracks in the heels, diaper rash between the toes, abrasions, bites. The disease usually begins suddenly with chills and high fever, and after a few hours a bright red, hot, swollen area with clear, jagged edges appears on the skin. Most often the legs are affected, less often the face and hands. Without treatment, the infection spreads and can lead to suppuration, tissue death and sepsis. Erysipelas are prone to relapses, which damage the lymphatic vessels and cause persistent swelling. Antibiotics are prescribed by the doctor.

Seborrheic keratosis (keratoma)
Seborrheic keratosis is a benign growth of the upper layer of skin, one of the most common formations in middle-aged and elderly people. It is also called a keratoma or "senile wart", although it is not related to viral warts and is not contagious. It looks like a clearly defined plaque of light brown, brown or almost black color with an uneven warty surface, as if “glued” to the skin. Most often appears on the back, chest, abdomen, face and scalp. With age, keratomas usually become larger. Seborrheic keratosis does not degenerate into a malignant tumor, but in appearance it can resemble melanoma, so new dark formations should be shown to a dermatologist.

Stevens-Johnson syndrome and Lyell's syndrome
Stevens-Johnson syndrome and Lyell's syndrome (toxic epidermal necrolysis) are rare but life-threatening reactions in which the immune system begins to destroy cells of the skin and mucous membranes. Most often they are triggered by medications, less often by infections. First, fever, weakness, pain in the eyes and sore throat appear, then a painful rash, blisters and erosions on the lips, mouth, eyes and genitals. The skin peels off in layers, as if burned. The forms are distinguished by the area of the lesion: up to ten percent of the body surface is Stevens-Johnson syndrome, more than thirty is Lyell's syndrome. The condition requires immediate hospitalization: the main thing is to stop the offending drug as early as possible and begin intensive therapy.
