Neurofibromatosis
Neurofibromatosis is a group of hereditary diseases in which the functioning of genes that inhibit the growth of nerve tissue cells is disrupted. Because of this, benign tumors form along the nerves, and characteristic spots appear on the skin. The most common variant is neurofibromatosis type 1, which is usually recognized in childhood by light brown café-au-lait spots and freckle-like rashes in the armpits and inguinal folds. Neurofibromatosis type 2 is less common and manifests primarily as bilateral tumors of the auditory nerves with hearing loss. The disease cannot be cured, but regular monitoring allows you to identify and solve emerging problems in a timely manner.

Unpleasant sweat odor (bromhidrosis)
Bromhidrosis is a persistent unpleasant body odor caused by the decomposition of sweat by skin bacteria. Fresh sweat itself has almost no odor: the smell appears when bacteria process the components of the secretion of the apocrine glands located in the armpits, groin and around the nipples. Therefore, the problem is almost always associated not with a person’s cleanliness, but with a combination of three factors: the amount of sweat, the composition of the skin microflora and the conditions in which it lives - heat, humidity and synthetic fabric. The smell significantly worsens the quality of life and causes anxiety, but in most cases it can be easily corrected.

Onychodystrophy (brittle and deformed nails)
Onychodystrophy is a collective name for changes in the shape, thickness, color and strength of nails that are not directly related to infection. The nail plate grows from the matrix at the base of the nail, so any damage or systemic trouble is reflected on it with a delay of months: on the hands, the nail is completely renewed in about six months, on the feet - up to one and a half years. Hence an important conclusion: the changes that are visible today often indicate events six months ago. Most often, the causes are household and reversible, but sometimes nails are the first to indicate iron deficiency, thyroid disease or skin disease.

Onycholysis (nail detachment)
Onycholysis is the separation of the nail plate from the nail bed, usually starting from the free edge and moving towards the base. The part that peels off appears white or yellowish because there is air underneath it and not a bed of pink. In itself, this is not a disease, but a symptom that has many causes: trauma and shock, prolonged exposure of hands to water, aggressive manicure and extensions, fungal infection, psoriasis, and less commonly, thyroid disease and reactions to medications. The peeled area does not grow back: a healthy nail must grow back, and this takes months.

Shingles (herpes zoster)
Shingles, or herpes zoster, is a disease caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus. After chickenpox, usually suffered in childhood, the virus remains in the nerve ganglia for life and can “wake up” if the immune system is weakened. It travels along the nerve to the skin, causing severe burning pain and a blistering rash in a stripe on one side of the body, usually on the chest, abdomen or face. It mainly affects people over 50 years of age and those with weakened immune systems. The most common complications are long-term postherpetic neuralgia and eye damage. Antiviral treatment is most effective if started within 72 hours of the rash appearing. For older people, there is vaccination.

Diaper rash (intertrigo)
Diaper rash, or intertrigo, is an inflammation of the skin in places where folds touch each other: in the groin, under the breasts, in the armpits, on the neck of babies, between the fingers and under the abdomen. The reason is a combination of heat, moisture and friction: in a closed fold, sweat does not evaporate, the stratum corneum becomes wet and is easily damaged. The skin turns red, begins to sting and become wet, and Candida fungi and bacteria quickly multiply on the damaged surface. In infants, this is compounded by irritation from urine and feces under the diaper. The problem can be easily solved with care, but persistent diaper rash requires examination.

Otomycosis (ear fungus)
Otomycosis is a fungal inflammation of the external auditory canal, less commonly the middle ear. It is caused by mold and yeast-like fungi, which normally live on the skin, but begin to actively multiply with increased humidity, injuries to the skin of the ear and after courses of antibacterial ear drops. The leading complaint is persistent itching, which is accompanied by congestion, noise, hearing loss and discharge of an unusual type: whitish, gray, greenish or with black dots. Otomycosis is often mistaken for ordinary otitis and treated with inappropriate drops, which only makes it worse. The basis of proper treatment is thorough cleaning of the ear by a doctor and antifungal agents.

Pityriasis versicolor (lichen versicolor)
Pityriasis versicolor, or versicolor, is a superficial fungal infection of the skin caused by yeast-like fungi of the genus Malassezia. These fungi normally live on the skin of most people, but in hot, humid climates, with sweating and oily skin, they actively multiply. Small spots appear on the back, chest, shoulders and neck, which merge into large lesions. They may be lighter than the surrounding skin, especially after sunbathing, or pinkish-brown with fine scaling. The disease is not dangerous and practically not contagious, but is prone to relapse. Antifungal agents quickly eliminate the fungus, and skin color is restored gradually over several months.

Focal scleroderma (morphea)
Focal scleroderma, or morphea, is an inflammatory disease in which excess collagen is deposited in the skin, leaving the area tight, smooth, and shiny. In the active phase, the lesion is surrounded by a characteristic lilac or purple rim, and the center gradually brightens and thickens, as if waxy. An important difference from systemic scleroderma is that morphea affects only the skin and underlying tissues and does not affect internal organs: there is no damage to the lungs, esophagus, or kidneys. The disease is not contagious. For most people, it subsides on its own over time, but thickening and discoloration of the skin remain at the site of the outbreak.

Panaritium and paronychia
Panaritium is an acute purulent inflammation of the tissues of the finger, most often on the palmar side or around the nail. Paronychia is called inflammation of the periungual fold: this is the most common and superficial form. The infection, usually staphylococcal or streptococcal, enters through hangnails, injections, manicure cuts, and splinters. Redness, swelling and throbbing, “tugging” pain appear, which may prevent you from sleeping. The skin of the finger is dense, and the tissues are separated by partitions, so pus easily spreads deep into the tendons, joint and bone. Superficial forms at an early stage are treated conservatively, and if pus accumulates, surgery is necessary. Delay and independent opening threaten the loss of finger function.
