Itching and burning in the vagina
Itching and burning in the intimate area is a very common complaint, and thrush is not always behind it, although it is usually the first to be suspected. There are many more reasons: bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, allergies to hygiene products and synthetic underwear, thinning of the mucous membrane with a decrease in estrogen, skin diseases of the vulva, as well as high blood sugar in diabetes. Treatment for these conditions is different, so independently selecting candles based on advertising often does not help and blurs the picture for the doctor. A simple examination and smear can help you figure it out, but you shouldn’t put off the visit: prolonged itching noticeably impairs sleep and quality of life.

Ichthyosis
Ichthyosis is a group of hereditary diseases in which the formation of the stratum corneum of the skin is impaired. The scales do not exfoliate in time, accumulate and make the skin dry, rough, covered with plates resembling fish scales. This is not a consequence of poor care and is not contagious: the reason is changes in genes responsible for proteins and fats of the skin barrier. The severity is very different: the most common form is mild and looks like severe dryness with small scales on the legs, and rare congenital forms appear from birth and require serious care. Ichthyosis cannot be cured, but proper daily care makes the skin almost normal.

Skin candidiasis
Cutaneous candidiasis is a skin lesion caused by yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida, which live in small quantities on the skin and mucous membranes of healthy people. The disease begins when suitable conditions are created for the fungi: heat, moisture and lack of air. Therefore, typical places are large folds under the breasts, in the groin, in the armpits, on the stomach in overweight people, as well as between the fingers and the area under the diaper in babies. The skin becomes bright red, moist, with a whitish coating and characteristic small spots along the edge of the lesion. Skin candidiasis is well treated, but often returns if the provoking factors are not eliminated.

Itchy skin
Itchy skin is an unpleasant sensation that makes you want to scratch. It can be local or cover the entire body, accompanied by a rash or occur on apparently healthy skin. The most common cause is skin diseases: dryness, atopic and contact dermatitis, urticaria, scabies. However, persistent itching without a rash is sometimes the first sign of internal diseases: diabetes mellitus, liver and kidney diseases, thyroid disorders, iron deficiency and blood diseases. Constant scratching damages the skin, disrupts sleep and reduces quality of life. If itching lasts longer than 6 weeks, interferes with sleep, or is accompanied by weight loss and weakness, you need to be examined by a doctor.

Cutaneous horn
The cutaneous horn is a dense outgrowth of compacted horny substance that rises above the skin and actually looks like a small horn or claw. This is not an independent disease, but an external manifestation of the process that occurs in the skin at its base. A harmless wart or seborrheic keratosis, a precancerous change such as actinic keratosis, and sometimes squamous cell skin cancer may be hidden under the horn. That is why the cutaneous horn is always considered a reason for examination by a doctor: it is not the growth itself that is important, but what is underneath it. You cannot cut it yourself - this will result in the loss of material for research.

Granuloma annulare
Granuloma annulare is a benign inflammatory skin disease in which dense small nodules of flesh-colored, pinkish or lilac color are arranged in a ring or arc. The center of the ring remains normal skin, slightly sunken. Most often, lesions appear on the back of the hands and feet, on the fingers, elbows and knees. The main distinguishing feature is the absence of flaking and itching, which immediately separates this condition from the fungus with which it is regularly confused. The disease is not contagious, not dangerous to health, and in most people it goes away on its own within several years, although it can recur.

Contact dermatitis
Contact dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin where it comes into contact with an external substance. It comes in two main types. Simple, or irritant, occurs in any person with frequent or strong exposure to irritants: water, detergents, solvents, acids. Allergies develop only in people whose immune systems have become sensitive to a certain substance, such as nickel, fragrances, cosmetic preservatives or hair dye. It manifests itself as redness, itching, swelling and blisters, and in chronic cases - dryness and cracks. The disease is not contagious and not life-threatening, but can seriously interfere with work. The main thing in treatment is to find and eliminate the culprit substance.

Kraurosis of the vulva (lichen sclerosus)
Kraurosis of the vulva is an outdated name for lichen sclerosus, a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin of the external genitalia. The skin becomes thinner, becomes shiny and whitish, loses elasticity, cracks appear, and the labia minora and clitoris gradually smooth out. The leading symptom is debilitating itching, especially at night. The reason is related to autoimmune mechanisms, so the disease is not contagious and is not sexually transmitted. It is important to know: without treatment, the changes progress, and the risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva increases, so regular monitoring by a gynecologist is mandatory.

Xanthelasmas of the eyelids
Xanthelasmas are soft yellowish plaques on the skin of the eyelids, most often at the inner corner of the eye and usually symmetrical. These are accumulations of lipid-filled cells in the superficial layers of the skin. They do not hurt, do not itch and do not turn into cancer, but they do not disappear themselves, and over time they often increase and merge. About half of people with xanthelasma have impaired fat metabolism - increased cholesterol or its “bad” fraction, so the appearance of such plaques is a good reason to check the lipid spectrum, blood sugar and assess cardiovascular risk, and not just solve the issue of cosmetics.

Leishmaniasis
Leishmaniasis is a parasitic infection caused by the protozoan Leishmania; They are transmitted to humans by the bite of small blood-sucking mosquitoes. There are two main forms found in Central Asia. The skin begins with a dense nodule on an open area of the body, which gradually turns into a long-term non-healing ulcer and leaves a retracted scar. Visceral affects the spleen, liver and bone marrow: undulating fever, abdominal enlargement, anemia and weight loss appear. The cutaneous form is dangerous primarily due to a cosmetic defect and the addition of a bacterial infection; the visceral form, without treatment, is life-threatening, especially in young children. The diagnosis is confirmed by detecting the pathogen in the material from the ulcer or in the puncture, and the treatment regimen is selected by an infectious disease specialist.
