Skin hyperkeratosis
Hyperkeratosis is a thickening of the stratum corneum of the skin when cells become keratinized faster than they can be exfoliated. The skin becomes rough, rough, loses elasticity, and dense areas form on the feet and palms, which crack and hurt when walking. Hyperkeratosis can be a protective reaction to pressure and friction, for example, corns from uncomfortable shoes, or it can be a manifestation of a disease - psoriasis, eczema, fungal infection, hereditary keratinization disorders or vitamin A deficiency. In itself, it is rarely dangerous, but it reduces the quality of life and opens the gates of infection through cracks, especially in people with diabetes.

Hypertrichosis (excessive hair growth)
Hypertrichosis is excessive hair growth on any part of the body, not associated with the action of male sex hormones. Hair becomes longer, thicker and darker where there would normally be little of it, while the distribution remains “neutral” rather than masculine. This distinguishes hypertrichosis from hirsutism, in which in women hair grows in a male pattern - on the face, chest, abdomen - due to excess androgens. The reasons are different: hereditary characteristics, taking a number of medications, prolonged malnutrition, metabolic disorders, local skin irritation and, very rarely, congenital syndromes. Hypertrichosis itself is not dangerous, but sometimes it serves as a clue to another disease, so it’s worth checking with a doctor.

Gneiss (yellow crusts on a baby’s head)
Gneiss is a seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp in infants, in which yellowish, greasy scales and crusts appear on the top of the head and in the fontanel area. The condition occurs very often in the first months of life and is not associated with poor care, allergies or lack of vitamins. The main role is played by temporarily increased activity of the sebaceous glands under the influence of maternal hormones and yeast-like fungi that normally live on the skin. Gneiss is not contagious, it usually does not itch or bother the child, and by 6–12 months it goes away on its own. The parents' task is to gently soften and remove the scabs without picking them off, and to consult a doctor if the lesion spreads or becomes inflamed.

Skin and nail fungus
Fungal infections of the skin and nails are one of the most common dermatological problems and at the same time the one where the wrong treatment is most often made. A damaged nail is not always affected by fungus: trauma, psoriasis, eczema and circulatory disorders give a similar picture. Therefore, the rule is simple: before starting treatment, you need to confirm the diagnosis in a laboratory. Therapy for onychomycosis lasts for months, costs money and requires liver monitoring - spending all this on a non-fungal problem is pointless.

Dermatofibroma (skin fibroma)
Dermatofibroma is a benign nodular formation of the skin consisting of a proliferation of connective tissue. It looks like a dense pea-like nodule, usually up to a centimeter in size, pinkish-brown or brown in color, often on the legs, less often on the shoulders and back. It often appears at the site of an insect bite, scratch or ingrown hair and does not change for years. A distinctive feature is the dimple symptom: if you squeeze the skin on the sides of the nodule, it does not protrude, but is pulled inward. The formation does not degenerate into cancer, but similar-looking nodules can be dangerous, so the diagnosis is made by a doctor.

Zinc deficiency
Zinc is involved in the work of hundreds of enzymes and is responsible for cell division, wound healing, immune function, perception of taste and smell, child growth and maturation of the reproductive system. The body does not create its reserves, so intake must be daily. Deficiency develops with a monotonous diet with a predominance of grains and legumes, with intestinal diseases with malabsorption, chronic diarrhea, alcohol abuse, as well as in pregnant women and rapidly growing children. Manifestations are nonspecific: seizures and rashes around the mouth, poorly healing wounds, hair loss, frequent infections, decreased taste. The deficiency is confirmed by analysis, and replenished with nutrition and zinc preparations as prescribed by the doctor.

Dyshidrosis (dyshidrotic eczema)
Dyshidrosis is a type of eczema in which small, dense blisters, similar to sago grains, suddenly appear on the palms, sides of the fingers and soles. They sit deep in the thick skin, so they do not open on their own and are very itchy. After a few days, the contents dry out, the skin begins to peel, crack and hurt. Contrary to the old name, sweat glands have nothing to do with it: it is an inflammatory reaction of the skin in people with a sensitive barrier. Exacerbations are provoked by stress, heat, contact with detergents, metals and fungal infections of the feet. The disease is not contagious, but tends to recur.

Discoid lupus erythematosus
Discoid lupus erythematosus is a chronic autoimmune skin disease in which immune cells attack the epidermis' own cells, primarily in sun-exposed areas. Clearly defined red plaques with tightly packed scales appear, covering the mouths of the hair follicles. Over time, the center of the lesion sinks, turns pale and turns into a scar, and active inflammation remains along the edge. It is especially difficult to tolerate lesions on the scalp, where hair no longer grows back at the site of inflammation. In most cases, the disease is limited to the skin, but in some patients it is a manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus, so examination is necessary.

Diffuse (telogen) hair loss
Telogen effluvium hair loss is the most common cause of sudden diffuse thinning. Each hair lives in cycles: it grows for several years, then goes into a resting phase and falls out. If the body experiences a severe shock - high fever, surgery, childbirth, sudden weight loss, iron deficiency or thyroid disease - immediately most of the follicles go into rest ahead of schedule. The loss becomes noticeable two to three months after the event itself, so the patient usually does not see a connection with the cause. Hair thins evenly over the entire head, but the follicles are preserved, and after eliminating the cause, growth is restored.

Oily skin and enlarged pores
Oily skin is a skin type in which the sebaceous glands produce excess sebum. The face begins to shine within an hour or two after washing, makeup does not stick well, and the mouths of the follicles on the nose, forehead and chin become visually larger. The number of pores in a person does not change, so it is impossible to “close” them: you can only reduce their visibility by reducing sebum production and improving skin density. The main factors are heredity, hormonal levels, age and climate. Oily skin is more often prone to comedones and acne, but it has an advantage: it ages later and retains its elasticity longer. The key to results is regular gentle care rather than aggressive degreasing.
