Atheroma (sebaceous cyst)
In domestic practice, atheroma is a skin cyst that looks like a round, densely elastic formation under the skin. It is traditionally associated with blockage of the sebaceous gland duct, and according to the structure, most of these cysts turn out to be epidermal or trichilemmal. A curdled content with an unpleasant odor accumulates inside the capsule; a dark dot is sometimes visible above the cyst - the mouth of the duct. Atheromas most often appear on the scalp, face, neck, back and groin. They grow slowly, do not hurt, and almost never become cancerous. However, the cyst can become inflamed and fester. You can only get rid of atheroma surgically by removing it along with the capsule.

Atopic dermatitis in infants
Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that most often begins in the first year of life. In infants, it manifests itself as redness, peeling and weeping on the cheeks, forehead, outer surfaces of the arms and legs, and the main symptom is itching, which causes the child to worry and sleep poorly. The basis is a violation of the skin's protective barrier: it loses moisture and easily allows irritants to pass through. The tendency is inherited, and exacerbations are provoked by dry air, hard water, sweat, woolen clothes and soap. The disease is not contagious, and in most children it becomes milder over time. The basis of treatment is not pills, but daily moisturizing of the skin and timely relief of inflammation as prescribed by the doctor.

Basalioma (basal cell skin cancer)
Basalioma, or basal cell skin cancer, is the most common malignant skin tumor. It develops from cells of the basal layer of the epidermis, usually in older people, in areas exposed to the sun: face, nose, eyelids, ears, neck. Basalioma grows slowly, over years, and rarely metastasizes, so it is often not taken seriously. However, without treatment, the tumor grows into surrounding tissues - cartilage, bones, eyes - and can lead to serious cosmetic and functional consequences. It looks like a pearlescent nodule, a non-healing wound with a crust, or a flaky pink spot. With timely treatment, basal cell carcinoma is completely cured in most cases.

Pityriasis alba (pityriasis)
Pityriasis alba is a benign skin condition that causes fuzzy, light-colored patches with mild flaking, most commonly on the cheeks, chin, shoulders and upper back. Despite the name, it is not related to real lichens, is not contagious and is not caused by a fungus. This is a type of mild dermatitis, common in children and adolescents, especially those with a tendency to dry skin and atopic dermatitis. After inflammation subsides, the skin temporarily produces less pigment, so the area remains lighter, and this is especially noticeable in summer on tanned skin. The spots go away on their own, but it takes months.

Bullous pemphigoid
Bullous pemphigoid is the most common autoimmune blistering disease and occurs predominantly in older adults. Antibodies attack the proteins that attach the epidermis to the underlying layer of skin, so the blister forms deeper than with pemphigus and has a dense, tense covering. Such blisters do not burst at the slightest touch and heal without scars. Often, several weeks or months before the blisters appear, a person is only bothered by severe itching and rashes similar to hives, which is why the diagnosis is not made immediately. The oral mucosa is rarely affected. The disease responds well to treatment.

Ingrown hairs (pseudofolliculitis)
Ingrown hair is a situation when hair after shaving or epilation does not grow outward, but bends and grows into the skin or cannot penetrate its surface. In response, inflammation develops: a red painful tubercle appears, sometimes with a purulent head, itching and darkening of the skin after healing. Areas with coarse and curly hair are most often affected: the face and neck in men, the bikini area, armpits and legs in women. The condition itself is not dangerous, but it tends to return, and attempts to squeeze out the elements lead to suppuration, scars and persistent dark spots. The basis of help is the correct hair removal technique and exfoliation.

Hemangioma
Hemangioma is a benign tumor of vascular cells. The most common form is infantile hemangioma in children of the first year of life: soon after birth, a pale or red spot appears on the skin, which grows rapidly in the first months, becomes bright and convex, like a strawberry, and then gradually fades and decreases over several years. Most hemangiomas are not dangerous and do not require treatment. However, when located on the eyelids, lips, nose, in the diaper area, with rapid growth and ulceration, early consultation is necessary, since the best time for treatment is the first months of life. In adults, hemangiomas are most often found in the liver and vertebrae, usually by chance during examination.

Dühring's dermatitis herpetiformis
Dühring's dermatitis herpetiformis is a skin manifestation of gluten intolerance. In people with celiac disease, the immune system reacts to the grain protein, and the resulting antibodies are deposited in the papillae of the skin, causing inflammation. Small blisters and nodules appear on sharply itchy red spots located symmetrically on the elbows, knees, buttocks, shoulders and scalp. The itching and burning can be so severe that a person scratches the rash before he has time to examine it. Intestinal complaints are often absent, although there are usually changes in the small intestine. The basis of treatment is a lifelong gluten-free diet.

Hidradenitis ("bitch udder")
Hidradenitis is a purulent inflammation in the area of apocrine sweat glands - in the armpits, groin, perineum, under the breasts. Popularly, the acute form is called “bitch udder”: a painful, dense nodule forms under the skin, which turns red, softens and can burst open with the release of pus. In addition to acute hidradenitis associated with bacterial infection, there is chronic hidradenitis suppurativa, or acne inversions. This is an immunoinflammatory disease of the hair follicles with recurring nodules, fistulas and scars, exacerbations of which are provoked by smoking, excess weight and friction. The acute process usually heals quickly, but the chronic form requires long-term observation by a dermatologist and sometimes surgical treatment.

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
Hyperhidrosis is sweating that significantly exceeds the body's cooling needs. The sweat glands operate under the control of the autonomic nervous system, and in hyperhidrosis this control is too sensitive. There is a primary form, when strictly defined areas sweat - palms, feet, armpits, face - and a secondary form, when profuse sweat is associated with an illness or medication and occurs throughout the body, including at night. Primary hyperhidrosis usually begins in adolescence and is not life-threatening, but seriously interferes with work and communication. Secondary requires searching for the cause. In both cases there are effective ways to help.
