Lentigo (age spots)
Lentigines are flat brown spots with clear boundaries that appear on exposed areas of the body: the face, back of the hands, forearms, shoulders and upper back. They are often called age spots or liver spots, although they have nothing to do with the liver, and their main cause is ultraviolet radiation accumulated over a lifetime. Under its influence, melanocytes work more actively, and pigment is deposited in patches. Lentigo usually appears after 40 years of age, does not itch or hurt, and is safe in itself. Another thing is alarming: some precancerous changes and early melanoma look similar, so the spots need to be monitored and any changes shown to the doctor.

Lymphoma of the skin (mycosis fungoides)
Mycosis fungoides is the most common T-cell lymphoma of the skin. The name is historical and misleading: the disease has nothing to do with a fungal infection. Its essence is that malignant T-lymphocytes settle in the skin and cause inflammatory changes that are externally indistinguishable from eczema, psoriasis or allergic dermatitis. That is why years often pass from the appearance of the first spots to the diagnosis: a person is treated for a long time by a dermatologist, receives a temporary improvement and returns again with the same complaints. Most patients have a slow-onset form in which the disease is limited to the skin for decades.

Lipoma (wen)
Lipoma, or wen, is a benign tumor of mature adipose tissue, surrounded by a thin capsule. It looks like a soft, mobile, painless nodule under the skin, most often on the back, neck, shoulders, hips and abdomen. Lipomas grow slowly, may not change for years, and almost never degenerate into a malignant tumor. The exact reason for their appearance is unknown; Heredity and, possibly, soft tissue injuries are important. The lipoma itself is not dangerous, but it can put pressure on surrounding tissues, interfere with movements, or be a cosmetic defect. It is important that the tumor be examined by a doctor: under the guise of a wen, other tumors are sometimes hidden that require a different approach.

Pediculosis pubis (phthiriasis)
Pediculosis pubis, or phthiriasis, is a parasitic skin lesion caused by pubic louse. This small insect attaches itself to the hair in the groin, less often on the stomach, chest, armpits, beard and even eyelashes, and feeds on blood. The main symptom is persistent itching, worse at night, and small bluish spots at the bite sites. The parasite is transmitted mainly through close bodily contact, often sexual, less often through shared linen and towels. The disease is not life-threatening, can be easily treated with external means, but requires examination for other sexually transmitted infections and treatment of the partner.

Melanoma
Melanoma is a malignant tumor of melanocytes, pigment-producing cells. Most often it occurs on the skin, less often on the mucous membranes and in the eye. The tumor may appear from an existing mole or on otherwise healthy skin, including the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and under the nail. The main risk factors are sunburn, tanning beds, fair skin, a large number of moles and melanoma in relatives. Melanoma is prone to early metastasis, therefore it is considered one of the most dangerous skin tumors. At the same time, at an early stage, while the tumor is thin, surgical removal often leads to a cure. Any changes in a mole are a reason to see a dermatologist or oncologist as soon as possible.

Miliums (millet)
Milia, or millet, are small, dense white nodules the size of a poppy seed, most often on the eyelids, cheekbones, cheeks and nose. These are microscopic cysts filled with keratin: horny scales do not find access to the surface and accumulate in a closed cavity under the skin. Milia do not become inflamed, do not hurt, and are not associated with poor hygiene, so it is impossible to squeeze them out like a regular comedones - they do not have an open duct. They are harmless, in newborns they disappear on their own within a few weeks, and in adults they persist for months and can be removed by a simple procedure at the doctor’s office.

Erythema multiforme exudative
Exudative erythema multiforme is an acute reaction of the skin and mucous membranes, in which characteristic round spots with concentric zones of different colors appear, similar to a target. This is not an allergy in the usual sense, but an immune response to an infection, most often to the herpes simplex virus. The rash occurs symmetrically, starting from the hands and feet and spreading to the center of the body. The condition usually progresses favorably and goes away in two to four weeks, but in some people it recurs after each exacerbation of herpes. The doctor’s main task is to distinguish it from Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which is life-threatening.

Calluses and corns
Calluses and corns are areas of compacted, keratinized skin that form in places of constant pressure and friction. A corn is a wide, flat thickening on the sole, often under the base of the toes or on the heel. The callus is smaller in area, has clear boundaries and sometimes a dense core that goes deep, which is why it hurts a lot when walking. The main reasons are tight or uncomfortable shoes, high heels, flat feet and toe deformities. Calluses and corns are not dangerous for a healthy person, but in people with diabetes and circulatory problems they can lead to ulcers. Treatment always begins with eliminating the pressure.

Thrush in men (candida balanoposthitis)
Thrush in men is candidal balanitis or balanoposthitis, an inflammation of the glans penis and foreskin caused by yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida. These fungi live in small quantities on the skin and mucous membranes, and the disease occurs when the balance is disturbed: with diabetes, after a course of antibiotics, against the background of decreased immunity, narrow foreskin and insufficient hygiene. Typical complaints are itching, burning, redness and a white cheesy coating with a sour odor, pain during urination and sexual intercourse. The condition is highly treatable, but persistence or recurrence almost always means there is an underlying cause that needs to be found.

Soft fibromas (acrochordons)
Acrochordons, or soft fibromas, are benign skin growths of flesh-colored or brownish color, usually on a thin stalk. Favorite places are the neck, armpits, eyelids, under the breasts and in the groin, that is, areas of folds and friction. The size most often ranges from a few millimeters to a centimeter. These are not viral warts or moles: the formation consists of loose connective tissue and blood vessels covered with skin. Acrochordons are harmless and do not turn into cancer, but their number increases with age, excess weight, pregnancy and insulin resistance. They worry mainly cosmetically and when they are injured by clothing or jewelry.
