Syringomas
Syringomas are small benign formations originating from the ducts of the sweat glands. They look like dense nodules the size of a pinhead, flesh-colored, yellowish or slightly brownish in color, usually numerous and located symmetrically. The favorite place is the skin of the lower eyelids and the area under the eyes, less often the neck, chest, armpits and abdomen. The nodules do not hurt, do not itch or be squeezed out, because there is no pus or sebum inside. They do not pose a health hazard and do not degenerate into cancer, but they are noticeable on the face and are often cosmetically disturbing. Syringomas themselves do not disappear.

Systemic scleroderma
Systemic scleroderma is a rare autoimmune connective tissue disease that causes excessive collagen production and damage to small blood vessels. The skin gradually thickens and loses mobility, starting with the fingers and face, and vascular disorders are manifested by Raynaud's syndrome: in the cold or with excitement, the fingers turn white, then turn blue and red, while they hurt and go numb. The danger of the disease is not in the skin, but in the internal organs: the esophagus, lungs, heart and kidneys can be affected. Early diagnosis and observation by a rheumatologist make it possible to identify these changes in time and prescribe treatment that significantly changes the course of the disease.

Sunburn
Sunburn is acute damage to the skin caused by ultraviolet radiation. Type B rays damage the DNA of epidermal cells, some of them die, inflammation develops: the skin turns red, becomes hot and painful, and in severe cases, blisters appear. Redness does not increase immediately, but 4–6 hours after sun exposure and reaches its maximum by the end of the first day, so it is impossible to estimate the dose “by how it feels” on the beach. A light burn heals in a few days with peeling, but any burn does not go away without a trace: repeated burns, especially in childhood, increase the risk of melanoma and early skin aging. The best tactic is prevention.

Vascular malformations of the skin (“port-wine stain”)
Vascular malformations of the skin are congenital disorders of the structure of blood vessels, in which an area of the skin contains dilated capillaries, veins or lymphatic vessels. The best known form is capillary malformation, or port-wine stain: a flat, pink-red or purplish spot visible at birth. Unlike infant hemangioma, it does not disappear over time, it grows in proportion to the child, and over the years it can darken and thicken. Usually this is an isolated cosmetic feature, but with a certain location on the face it is necessary to exclude concomitant changes in the eyes and brain. The modern approach is laser treatment, which begins as early as possible.

Streptoderma (impetigo)
Streptoderma is a superficial bacterial skin infection caused by streptococci, often together with staphylococci. Its most common form is impetigo: blisters appear on the skin, which quickly open and become covered with characteristic honey-yellow crusts. Children of preschool age get sick more often, especially in summer, when scratching insect bites, abrasions and eczema. The infection is very contagious and is easily transmitted through hands, toys and towels, which is why outbreaks occur in children's groups. With timely treatment, streptoderma goes away in 1–2 weeks without scarring. Without treatment, the process spreads, can develop into deep ulcers, and in rare cases is complicated by inflammation of the kidneys.

Ringworm (trichophytia, microsporia)
Ringworm is a contagious fungal infection of the skin, hair and, less commonly, nails, caused by the dermatophyte fungi Microsporum and Trichophyton. Hence the medical names - microsporia and trichophytosis. Children get sick more often, becoming infected from stray cats and dogs or from other children. Round lesions appear on the scalp, where the hair is broken off at a height of several millimeters, as if it had been cut, and the skin peels off. Pink rings with a raised, flaky ridge along the edge form on smooth skin. The disease is not life-threatening, but is easily transmitted to others. Treatment is prescribed by a dermatologist; if the head is affected, oral antifungal drugs are definitely needed.

Dry skin (xerosis)
Dry skin, or xerosis, is a condition in which the skin loses moisture and lipids, causing it to become rough, tight, flaky and itchy. Most often, dryness is associated with external causes: hot water, frequent washing with soap, dry air, cold, wind and age-related changes. In hot, dry climates and when air conditioners and heaters are running, the problem becomes worse. However, dry skin can also be a sign of diseases: atopic dermatitis, ichthyosis, hypothyroidism, diabetes, kidney disease, as well as a side effect of medications. In most cases, proper care is sufficient, but if there is persistent dryness, cracks and itching, it is worth getting examined.

Skin rash
A rash is a change in the skin that differs from normal in color, density or texture. It is not a diagnosis, but a sign: identical-looking rashes can be a manifestation of an allergy, infection, autoimmune process, reaction to a medicine or a bite. For the doctor, not only the type of elements is important, but also their location, order of appearance, the presence of itching, temperature, and general malaise. Most of the rashes are harmless and go away on their own, but there are conditions in which the clock counts: a rash that does not fade when pressed, swelling of the face and difficulty breathing, extensive peeling of the skin. Therefore, if in doubt, it is better to see a doctor.

Rash in a child
Rash in children is very common and in most cases is associated with harmless causes: viral infections, prickly heat, contact irritation or atopic dermatitis. However, it is the skin that is sometimes the first to signal a dangerous disease, so it is important for parents to know one key trick: a rash that does not turn pale when pressed with a transparent glass requires an immediate call to the ambulance. In all other cases, the doctor understands the cause by the appearance of the elements, their location, the presence of temperature, itching, and what preceded the appearance of the rash.

Erythema toxicum of the newborn
Erythema toxicum neonatorum is a benign rash that appears in many healthy babies in the first days of life. Despite the frightening name, there is no poisoning with it: it is a temporary reaction of the skin to the transition from the intrauterine environment to the air. It looks like reddish spots up to several centimeters in size, in the center of which a small yellowish-white bump or vesicle is often visible. Elements appear and disappear in different places, bypassing the palms and soles. The child eats well, sleeps normally, and has no fever. No treatment is required; the rash goes away on its own within a few days. The main task of parents is not to confuse it with an infectious rash.
