Highest level
The fourth class is used for lymphedema, elephantiasis, severe post-thrombotic syndrome - conditions that require maximum pressure to control edema. Such products are often made to individual measurements, since standard sizes are not suitable for severe deformation of the limb. Selection requires particularly accurate measurements at several points and the mandatory exclusion of arterial pathology. Compression therapy for lymphedema is combined with manual lymphatic drainage and is lifelong - so the correct selection is critical.
Why is knitwear selected by a doctor?
Compression hosiery is a therapeutic product, not an accessory. Its action is based on a precisely calculated pressure gradient: maximum at the ankle and decreasing upward. This gradient only works if the size is chosen correctly.
The product “by eye” either does not create the necessary pressure and is useless, or it tightens and impairs blood circulation. In addition, with concomitant arterial insufficiency, compression is contraindicated - only a doctor can evaluate this.
Compression classes
- preventive – during long flights, standing work, pregnancy
- Class 1 - initial manifestations, heaviness and swelling in the evening, prevention
- Class 2 - severe varicose veins, condition after surgery and sclerotherapy
- Class 3 - chronic venous insufficiency, trophic disorders, lymphedema
How to wear it correctly
Knitwear is put on in the morning without getting out of bed, while swelling is minimal, and removed before bed. Wash by hand at a temperature no higher than 40 degrees, do not wring or dry on a radiator - high temperature destroys elastic fibers. With proper care, the product retains its healing properties for about six months.
