When high compression is needed
The third class is prescribed for severe chronic venous insufficiency with persistent edema, skin changes, healed or open trophic ulcers, as well as post-thrombotic syndrome. Such knitwear is dense, and it can be difficult to put it on without a special device - the doctor teaches the technique and, if necessary, recommends a device for putting it on. Before prescribing, an assessment of arterial blood flow is required: in case of arterial insufficiency, high compression is contraindicated and dangerous.
Why is knitwear selected by a doctor?
Compression hosiery is a therapeutic product, not an accessory. Its action is based on a precisely calculated pressure gradient: maximum at the ankle and decreasing upward. This gradient only works if the size is chosen correctly.
The product “by eye” either does not create the necessary pressure and is useless, or it tightens and impairs blood circulation. In addition, with concomitant arterial insufficiency, compression is contraindicated - only a doctor can evaluate this.
Compression classes
- preventive – during long flights, standing work, pregnancy
- Class 1 - initial manifestations, heaviness and swelling in the evening, prevention
- Class 2 - severe varicose veins, condition after surgery and sclerotherapy
- Class 3 - chronic venous insufficiency, trophic disorders, lymphedema
How to wear it correctly
Knitwear is put on in the morning without getting out of bed, while swelling is minimal, and removed before bed. Wash by hand at a temperature no higher than 40 degrees, do not wring or dry on a radiator - high temperature destroys elastic fibers. With proper care, the product retains its healing properties for about six months.
