How does botulinum toxin work?
The drug blocks the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscle, and it stops contracting at full strength. The skin above it is smoothed out, and new creases do not form. The effect begins on days 3–5 and reaches a maximum after two weeks, lasting 4–6 months, after which muscle activity is completely restored. In addition to aesthetics, botulinum toxin is used for hyperhidrosis - increased sweating of the armpits and palms. The cost of the drug itself is usually paid separately, since the consumption depends on the number of zones and the severity of facial expressions.
Injection techniques: what do they solve?
Injection procedures occupy an intermediate position between skincare cosmetology and surgery. They do not lift sagging tissues, but effectively work with expression wrinkles, lack of volume and skin quality - without incisions and long recovery.
The general rule: the more pronounced the age-related changes, the less the return on injections. With significant tissue ptosis, they provide only a partial effect, and the surgeon honestly warns about this.
Main groups
- botulinum toxin - relaxes facial muscles, smoothing wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes
- hyaluronic acid fillers - replenish volume, fill folds, enlarge lips
- mesothreads - create a reinforcing frame in tissues
- sclerotherapy - eliminates spider veins on the legs
What does the doctor warn you about?
All these methods are reversible and require repetition: the effect of botulinum toxin lasts 4–6 months, fillers last from six months to a year and a half. The cost of the drug is usually paid separately from the procedure itself, since it depends on the volume and brand.
