What does a laser do?

The laser beam evaporates lymphoid tissue and immediately seals small vessels, so the surgical field remains dry and blood loss is minimal. This is especially important in children. Additionally, the laser has an antibacterial effect on the wound surface. The combination with endoscopic control gives the best result: complete removal of tissue with minimal trauma to surrounding structures.

When are tonsils and adenoids removed?

Palatine tonsils and adenoids are part of the immune system, so they are not removed without compelling reasons. But when the tonsil itself becomes the focus of a chronic infection, the harm from it outweighs the benefit.

The main indications for tonsillectomy: frequent tonsillitis (more than 4-5 times a year), a history of peritonsillar abscesses, complications of the heart, joints and kidneys, significant enlargement of the tonsils with breathing and swallowing problems.

Adenotomy is performed on children with persistent nasal breathing problems, snoring and sleep apnea, recurring otitis media and hearing loss, as well as with an emerging “adenoid” type of face.

Removal methods

  • classic instrumental - proven method, used for decades
  • endoscopic - under the control of an endoscope, allows you to completely remove tissue, especially in the nasopharynx
  • laser - less blood loss, reduced operation time
  • with cauterization - coagulation of the bed for reliable hemostasis

How is recovery going?

After surgery, it is recommended to stay in the hospital until the next morning - this is a standard safety measure due to the risk of early bleeding. In the first days, the throat hurts, swallowing is difficult; Cool drinks, ice cream and prescribed painkillers help.

On days 5–8, the plaque on the tonsil bed begins to fade - this is a normal stage of healing, and not a complication. Return to normal regimen after 2 weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Is it true that you get sick more often after having your tonsils removed?+
No. The function of the removed tonsils is taken over by other elements of the lymphoid ring of the pharynx. In patients with chronic tonsillitis, the frequency of sore throats after surgery, on the contrary, sharply decreases.
Can adenoids grow back?+
Yes, with incomplete removal. This is why endoscopic control is preferable: it allows you to remove the tissue completely, including hard-to-reach areas at the mouths of the auditory tubes.
At what age is adenotomy performed?+
Most often at 3–7 years of age, when the adenoids are most pronounced. In case of severe breathing disorders during sleep, surgery is performed earlier.
Does it hurt after surgery?+
A sore throat in the first week is expected and is controlled with painkillers. In children, recovery after adenotomy is usually easier than after removal of the tonsils.
