Vaginosis is a balance
Gardnerella is present in many healthy women - the diagnosis is made by prevalence (best of all - quantitative panels Florocenosis / Femoflor, pages nearby). Confirmed vaginosis is treated with a course of restoration of lactobacilli; the partner does not need routine treatment. Relapses are a reason to look for provocateurs (douches, antibiotics).
When is it appointed?
- discharge, itching, burning, pain when urinating;
- new partner, unprotected contact - screening;
- pregnancy planning and preparation for IVF;
- inflammation (urethritis, cervicitis, prostatitis) - search for the cause;
- control of cure after 3–4 weeks.
PCR is the standard for diagnosing STIs
Half of sexually transmitted infections occur latently, destroying fertility for years: PCR finds the DNA of the pathogen in any carrier, even asymptomatic. Each infection is tested with a separate test or panel as prescribed; absolute pathogens are always treated in both partners, conditional pathogens are treated based on quantity and clinical features. Collections from both men and women are performed in a clinic with proper technique; result is 1–3 days, treatment is prescribed by a urologist/gynecologist on site.
