Osteomyelitis of the jaw
Osteomyelitis of the jaw is a purulent inflammation of the bone tissue of the jaw along with the bone marrow and periosteum. In the vast majority of cases, the infection comes from a diseased tooth: neglected caries turns into pulpitis, then into periodontitis, and pus breaks into the bone. Less commonly, the cause is a broken jaw, infection with blood, and complications after tooth extraction. The disease develops quickly: severe pain, high fever, swelling of the face, adjacent teeth become loose, and the lip becomes numb. This is not a condition that can be treated at home with rinses: without timely opening of the abscess and antibiotics, serious complications are possible, so urgent help from a dental surgeon is needed.

Fracture of the lower jaw
The lower jaw is the only movable bone of the face, and it breaks more often than other bones of the facial skeleton. The main reason is a blow to the face during a fight, fall, sports injury or traffic accident. Due to its horseshoe shape, the jaw often breaks in two places at once: at the point of impact and on the opposite side. The main sign of a fracture is a malocclusion: the teeth stop closing as usual, pain appears when opening the mouth and chewing. The danger is not only associated with the bone: fragments can displace the tongue and impair breathing, and the fracture line in the dentition is actually open and requires infection prevention. Treatment usually begins on the first day.

Increased tooth wear
Increased tooth wear is a loss of hard tissue that occurs noticeably faster than expected with age. The enamel becomes thinner, softer dentin is exposed, and the process accelerates on its own: the teeth become shorter, chips, pits and sharp edges appear. The most common culprits are nighttime clenching and grinding of teeth, acids from food, drinks or stomach juices, malocclusion and the absence of some teeth, which causes the load to be redistributed to the remaining ones. The danger is not only in aesthetics: over time, the height of the bite decreases, the temporomandibular joints and masticatory muscles suffer. The earlier the cause is found, the easier and cheaper it is to preserve your own tooth tissue.

Teething in children
Teething is a natural stage of baby development in which the tooth moves through the bone and gum. The lower central incisors are often the first to appear, usually around six months of age, and by the age of three, most children have all twenty primary teeth. The timing is very individual: both three months and a year for the first tooth are within the norm, and the order of appearance is more important than the exact dates. The teething itself may be accompanied by anxiety, profuse drooling, a desire to chew on everything, and a slightly elevated temperature. But high fever, vomiting, profuse diarrhea and dental rash are not explained - they are usually due to infection.

Lip cancer
Lip cancer is a malignant tumor that almost always develops on the red border of the lower lip and in the vast majority of cases is squamous cell. The main culprit is years of exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun, so the disease is more common in people who work outdoors and is exacerbated by smoking. The tumor rarely appears on a healthy lip: it is usually preceded by precancerous changes - persistent cheilitis, whitish spots, erosions and crusts, which either heal or return. The key sign that requires attention is a sore or lump that does not heal for more than three weeks. If detected at an early stage, lip cancer is highly treatable.

Oral cancer
Oral cancer is a group of malignant tumors that arise on the mucous membranes of the cheeks, gums, floor of the mouth, hard palate and lips. The vast majority of them are squamous cell tumors that develop against the background of prolonged exposure to tobacco, nasvay, alcohol and chronic irritation. They are often preceded by visible precancerous changes: white or red spots that can be noticed during a routine dental examination. This makes the oral cavity one of the few locations where a tumor can actually be detected early and by eye. The early stage can be treated successfully, so any change in the mucosa that persists for more than three weeks requires a visit to the doctor.

Tongue cancer
Tongue cancer is a malignant tumor that most often develops from mucosal cells on the lateral surface of the tongue. It refers to tumors of the head and neck and is closely associated with smoking, chewing tobacco, nasvay, strong alcohol and chronic trauma to the mucous membrane from the sharp edge of a tooth or denture. Some cases, especially in younger people, are caused by the human papillomavirus. The insidiousness of the disease is that it begins unnoticed: with a small ulcer, a white or red spot, or a lump that does not hurt for a long time. That is why any formation in the mouth that does not heal for more than three weeks should be shown to a doctor.

Cleft lip and palate
Cleft lip and palate is one of the most common congenital facial defects, in which the tissues of the upper lip, alveolar ridge or palate do not fuse together in early pregnancy. The defect can be isolated (only the lip or only the palate), unilateral or bilateral, complete or partial. It affects appearance, feeding, breathing, hearing and speech, but at the same time responds well to treatment: modern care is a chain of planned operations and observation by a team of specialists, and not one procedure. The child's intelligence does not suffer with an isolated cleft. The sooner the family gets to the specialized team, the smoother the whole journey goes.

Gum recession (exposure of the necks of teeth)
Gum recession is a downward movement of the gum edge, exposing the neck and sometimes the root of the tooth. The tooth looks longer, a yellower root strip appears at its base, and there is a sharp sensitivity to cold and to brushing. The gum does not “slide” by itself: most often its edge becomes thinner from too much brushing with a hard brush, from inflammation due to periodontitis, from overload due to malocclusion, or due to anatomical features - thin gums and a short frenulum. The exposed root is not covered with enamel, so it quickly wears off and is easily affected by caries. The gums do not grow back on their own, but you can almost always stop the process.

Supernumerary teeth
Supernumerary teeth, or hyperdontia, is a condition in which there are more teeth than expected: an adult should have no more than thirty-two, a child with a primary dentition should have twenty. An extra tooth can erupt in the dentition, grow behind or in front of it, and often remains in the bone and is detected only in the image. The most common mesiodens is an additional tooth between the upper central incisors, usually small and cone-shaped. Such a tooth itself does not hurt, but it interferes with its neighbors: it delays their eruption, displaces them, causes crowding and resorption of the roots. Therefore, tactics are always determined by x-ray.
