Hemarthrosis (bleeding into the joint)
Hemarthrosis is an accumulation of blood in the joint cavity. Most often, it develops after a knee injury: the joint swells in literally minutes or hours, becomes tight, hot and painful, and movements are severely limited. The rapid increase in swelling is an important clue: if the joint is swollen in the first two hours, the likelihood of serious internal injury is very high, most often an anterior cruciate ligament rupture or an intra-articular fracture. Blood irritates the synovial membrane and cartilage, so it cannot be ignored. Sometimes hemarthrosis occurs without noticeable injury - due to blood clotting disorders or while taking blood thinning drugs, and this is a separate reason for examination.

Hygroma (ganglion)
Hygroma, or ganglion, is a benign formation in the form of a capsule with thick jelly-like contents associated with the membrane of a joint or tendon. Most often it appears on the back of the wrist, less often on the palmar surface, on the fingers, in the area of the foot and ankle joint. This is not a tumor in the oncological sense: hygroma never turns into cancer and does not metastasize. It can grow, shrink and disappear on its own, and its size often changes depending on the load. It is not the fact of the presence of a lump that requires treatment, but pain, limitation of movements, nerve compression and severe cosmetic discomfort.

Hyperlordosis
Hyperlordosis is an excessive forward curve of the spine, most often in the lumbar region. Every person has a slight lordosis: it absorbs the load when walking. When the deflection becomes excessive, the pelvis tilts forward, the stomach protrudes, the buttocks seem to be pushed back, and the load is redistributed to the intervertebral joints and back muscles. The reasons include weakness of the abdominal and buttock muscles, shortening of the hip flexors, excess weight, pregnancy, prolonged sitting, and in children - growth characteristics. Hyperlordosis itself is not a disease, but it causes fatigue and pain in the lower back and, over time, accelerates wear and tear on the joints of the spine. In most cases, the situation is corrected with exercises and habit correction.

Joint hypermobility (connective tissue dysplasia)
Joint hypermobility is a range of movements that is noticeably greater than normal: elbows and knees hyperextend, the thumb is easily pressed against the forearm, a person does the splits without warming up. This in itself is not a disease, but a feature of the structure of connective tissue, and for many people it does not cause any problems. The syndrome is said to occur when excessive mobility is accompanied by complaints: pain in the joints and back in the evening, frequent subluxations and sprains, flat feet, fatigue, and a tendency to bruise. There is almost no need for medications here - the basis of assistance is in well-chosen exercises that strengthen the muscles around the joints.

Schmorl's hernia
Schmorl's hernia is a depression of the cartilage tissue of the intervertebral disc into the body of an adjacent vertebra. Unlike the usual disc herniation, it is not directed back, towards the nerves, but up or down, into the bone. Therefore, it does not compress the nerve roots and spinal cord and does not itself cause pain, numbness or weakness. Such nodes are found by chance on X-rays or MRIs in a large number of people, including those who do not complain about their back at all. Most often this is a reflection of structural features and loads, less often - a sign of a previous injury, Scheuermann's disease or weakening of the bone. Special treatment is usually not required.

Hip dysplasia in children
Hip dysplasia is an underdevelopment of the elements of the joint, in which the acetabulum is too flat and the head of the femur is held in it unstable. In mild cases, we are talking only about the immaturity of the joint, in severe cases - about subluxation or complete dislocation of the hip. The problem arises even before birth and in the first months of life, while the joint is actively forming, and it is at this time that treatment is most effective and easiest. Without timely correction, gait is disrupted, and severe coxarthrosis develops early in adulthood. Therefore, an examination by an orthopedist and an ultrasound examination of the joints are included in the mandatory monitoring plan for the baby.

Shoulder impingement syndrome
Shoulder impingement syndrome is a condition in which the rotator cuff tendons and bursa become pinched in the narrow space between the head of the humerus and the acromion of the scapula. When you raise your arm, the tissues rub against the bony protrusion, become inflamed and swell, and the edema narrows the space even more - a vicious circle is formed. A person notices that raising his arm above shoulder level or placing it behind his back has become painful, and at night the pain prevents him from sleeping on that side. The reasons are different: overload when working with raised arms, weakness of the scapula muscles, the shape of the acromion, age-related changes in the tendons. Most patients benefit from a proper exercise program.

Infectious (septic) arthritis
Septic arthritis is the entry of bacteria into the joint cavity with the development of purulent inflammation. Most often, one large joint suffers, usually the knee or hip: in a matter of hours or days it becomes hot, swollen, sharply painful, and the person cannot move it. The temperature almost always rises. The infection enters the joint with blood from another source, during injury, injection or surgery. This is an emergency: the pus quickly destroys the cartilage, and a delay of even a few days leads to irreversible damage to the joint. Therefore, in case of acute inflammation of one joint with fever, you should seek help on the same day.

Calcific tendonitis of the shoulder
Calcific tendonitis of the shoulder is a condition in which calcium crystals are deposited in the rotator cuff tendons. The supraspinatus tendon is most often affected. The deposit may not bother you for a long time and is detected on an x-ray by chance. But when the calcification begins to dissolve, it enters the surrounding tissues and causes violent inflammation: the pain becomes very sharp, making it difficult to sleep and to raise the arm even to shoulder level. This is the most common cause of sudden, severe shoulder pain without injury. The disease has a natural course: in most people, the calcification resolves on its own over time, and treatment is aimed at pain relief and the return of movements.

Baker's cyst
Baker's cyst is a protrusion filled with joint fluid in the popliteal fossa. It does not occur on its own, but as a consequence of a problem inside the knee joint: with arthrosis, damage to the meniscus or inflammation, excess synovial fluid is produced, which, through a natural communication, enters the posterior bursa and stretches it. A small cyst may not bother you at all and is discovered by chance, while a large one may cause a feeling of fullness and prevent you from fully bending your leg. The key point is that removing the cyst without eliminating the cause is useless: as long as the joint continues to produce excess fluid, it will form again.
