Reconstruction planning
With urogenital sinus, persistent Müllerian duct, utriculus cysts with hypospadias, rectovaginal and urethrovaginal fistulas, the surgeon needs to know exactly where the cavities open and how they connect - ultrasound and MRI do not always give the answer. Under local anesthesia, a thin catheter is inserted into the opening of the sinus or fistula, contrast is injected, a series of photographs are taken in different projections, and, if necessary, with simultaneous urethrography. Based on the results, the type of anomaly and the scope of the operation are determined. The study is performed on children under sedation.
When is it prescribed?
Cavernosography is an X-ray contrast examination of the corpora cavernosa in cases of suspected venous leakage as a cause of erectile dysfunction (before surgery on the veins), in Peyronie's disease with deformation, cavernous fibrosis after priapism, or trauma to the penis. Genitography - contrasting the internal genital tract for developmental anomalies (urogenital sinus, intersex conditions, hypospadias with utriculus), fistulas and cysts for planning reconstructive surgery.
Security
Both studies are performed with iodinated contrast under local anesthesia and X-ray control with a minimal dose of radiation. Contraindications: allergy to iodine, acute inflammation. After cavernosography, the erection is relieved by administering the drug if necessary.
