Indications for circumcision
- phimosis - narrowing of the foreskin, in which the head does not open (in adults and children over 3–5 years old, if conservative treatment does not help);
- paraphimosis - pinching of the head by the narrowed foreskin (emergency indication);
- recurrent balanoposthitis - inflammation of the head and foreskin, especially in diabetes mellitus;
- short frenulum combined with excess foreskin;
- condylomas and leukoplakia of the foreskin;
- hygienic, religious and aesthetic reasons at the request of the patient or parents.
Circumcision reduces the risk of urinary tract infections in boys, balanoposthitis and some sexually transmitted infections, and simplifies hygiene.
Methods and anesthesia
Classical circumcision is performed with a scalpel using thin absorbable sutures - the method is universal and gives an accurate result. A radio wave or laser scalpel reduces bleeding and swelling. In adults, the operation is often performed under local anesthesia (blockade of the nerves of the penis), in children and, if the patient wishes, under intravenous anesthesia to eliminate stress. All options are available at the clinics below; Anesthesia is paid separately according to the price list.
How is the operation performed?
After treatment and anesthesia, the surgeon marks the incision line, excises the foreskin around the circumference, leaving the right amount of skin for a natural look, carefully stops the bleeding and sews the edges together with self-absorbing sutures that do not need to be removed. A bandage is applied. The entire operation takes 30–40 minutes; After 1–2 hours of observation, the patient goes home.
Recovery after circumcision
During the first 2-3 days, swelling, moderate pain and sensitivity of the head are possible - painkillers are prescribed. Dressings are performed in the clinic or independently 1-3 times in the first week with antiseptic treatment. The sutures dissolve in 2–3 weeks. Work and study - after 3-7 days, sports - after 2 weeks, sex life - after 4-6 weeks after complete healing. The increased sensitivity of the head decreases over several weeks.
