Why do you need a temporary crown?
A ground tooth is sensitive to temperature and vulnerable to bacteria, and the gums around it, without support, begin to “float” onto the ledge. A temporary crown solves both problems and at the same time serves as a fitting: it can be used to evaluate the shape and height of future permanent work and make adjustments before the technician begins the main construction.
When is a crown needed?
A crown is a permanent prosthesis that completely covers the tooth and takes on the chewing load. It is placed when there is little natural tooth tissue left and the filling can no longer hold the load.
The main indications: destruction of the coronal part by more than half, a tooth after canal treatment, an enamel crack, severe abrasion, as well as abutment teeth for a bridge.
What are crowns made of?

How is prosthetics performed?
At the first visit, the tooth is ground down for the future crown, impressions are taken and a temporary crown is placed - it protects the ground tooth and preserves aesthetics. The dental technician then creates the design from an impression or digital scan.
At the second visit, the crown is tried on: the marginal fit, contact with adjacent teeth and closure are checked. If everything is correct, the crown is fixed with permanent cement.
How long does a crown last?
The average service life is from 7 to 15 years or more. It depends on hygiene, the condition of the supporting tooth and load distribution. The main reason for replacement is not the breakage of the crown itself, but caries or inflammation underneath it, so regular examinations are important.
