Basics
A smear per day distinguishes the main causes of discharge: candidiasis is treated with antifungals, vaginosis - with its own scheme, trichomoniasis - always with a partner. In case of complaints, a “clean” smear is sent to PCR testing for hidden infections (the panel is next to it). Proper preparation (without candles for 2 days) - otherwise the picture is blurry.
When is it appointed?
- discharge, itching, odor - diagnosis of vaginitis;
- routine examination by a gynecologist and preparation for operations;
- pregnancy - screening by trimester;
- recurrent inflammation - culture with antibiogram;
- control after treatment.
Three dots - the whole picture
Each point is responsible for its own: the urethra catches urethritis, the vagina shows the balance of the flora and the degree of purity, the cervical canal - inflammation of the cervix, the “gate” of ascending infection. Microscopy distinguishes bacterial vaginosis (clue cells), candidiasis (mycelium) and trichomoniasis in one day; culture clarifies stubborn cases by quantity and sensitivity. The sampling is part of a gynecologist’s examination; treatment is prescribed without unnecessary visits.
