Prostate abscess
Prostate abscess is a limited accumulation of pus in its tissue, a severe complication of acute bacterial prostatitis. Microbes, often E. coli and other gram-negative bacteria, cause inflammation, and then the area of the gland melts to form a cavity. The condition is manifested by high fever with chills, severe pain in the perineum and rectum, painful and difficult urination, up to complete urinary retention. This is an emergency situation: without timely drainage, the abscess can burst and lead to sepsis. The diagnosis is confirmed by transrectal ultrasound or computed tomography, treatment is carried out in a hospital.

Kidney amyloidosis
Kidney amyloidosis is a disease in which amyloid is deposited in the kidney tissue: an abnormal protein with a special structure that the body cannot break down. The deposits gradually replace the normal structures of the glomeruli, and the kidney begins to lose protein in the urine. The typical picture is increasing edema, massive proteinuria and a decrease in protein levels in the blood. Amyloidosis is rarely isolated: more often it is part of a systemic process associated with chronic inflammation, blood diseases or hereditary syndromes. The diagnosis is confirmed only by a biopsy with a special stain, so if there is persistent protein in the urine, the examination cannot be postponed.

Protein in urine (proteinuria)
Protein in the urine, or proteinuria, is the excretion of protein in the urine in an amount exceeding the norm. Healthy kidneys retain large blood proteins, so protein is almost undetectable in a routine urine test. A one-time small increase is often temporary: after intense exercise, during temperature, stress, long standing, or improper analysis. Persistent proteinuria is one of the early signs of kidney damage in diabetes mellitus, hypertension, glomerulonephritis and other diseases, and for a long time it may not cause any complaints. Therefore, if a protein is detected, the analysis is repeated, and if confirmed, the cause is looked for. Early detection can slow the progression of chronic kidney disease.

Kidney pain
Kidney pain is a common complaint, which in fact is not always due to kidney disease. Real kidney pain is felt deeper than the muscles, in the side and under the lower ribs, often radiates to the groin and along the ureter, does not depend on posture and does not go away with warm-up. Its most common causes are urinary tract stones and acute pyelonephritis, less often - a cyst, impaired urine outflow, trauma. Much more often the lower back is bothered by the muscles and spine: this pain intensifies with movement and changes with changes in body position. Simple tests - urine analysis and ultrasound - help to distinguish one from the other, and sudden unbearable pain requires urgent help.

Pain in the lower abdomen in women
In the lower abdomen of a woman, the organs of three systems at once converge: the uterus with appendages, the bladder and ureters, as well as the final sections of the intestines. Therefore, the same pain sensation can be a normal variant during ovulation, a sign of inflammation, and a reason for emergency surgery. The doctor is interested in the time of pain in relation to the cycle, its nature, temperature, discharge, connection with urination and stool. A separate task is not to miss an ectopic pregnancy, torsion or rupture of a cyst, and appendicitis. If the pain is sharp, increasing and accompanied by weakness or bleeding, emergency help is needed.

Pain and burning when urinating
Pain, burning and cramping during urination, or dysuria, is one of the most common complaints among urologists and gynecologists. Most often this is a sign of inflammation of the bladder or urethra: in women - cystitis, in men - urethritis or prostatitis. The cause may be sexually transmitted infections, inflammation of the vagina, stones passed in the urine, irritation from hygiene products and certain medications. Sometimes chronic pain syndrome of the bladder is behind similar sensations. Uncomplicated cystitis in women is treated quickly, but with fever, lower back pain, blood in the urine, in men, pregnant women and children, a doctor’s examination is necessary. You should not take antibiotics at random: this interferes with diagnosis.

Varicocele
Varicocele is an enlargement of the veins of the spermatic cord, essentially varicose veins of the testicle. It occurs very often, in the vast majority of cases on the left, and often does not bother you at all. The main question with this diagnosis is not “is there a varicocele”, but “does it affect the testicle and fertility” - it is the answer that determines whether surgery is needed or observation is sufficient.

Vesiculitis (inflammation of the seminal vesicles)
Vesiculitis is an inflammation of the seminal vesicles, the paired glands located behind the bladder that produce most of the liquid portion of semen. It is rare in isolation: usually the infection comes from neighboring organs, most often from the prostate gland in prostatitis, less often from the urethra or through the bloodstream in general infections. Characteristic signs are pain in the depths of the pelvis and perineum, intensifying with ejaculation, and blood in the semen. Vesiculitis responds well to treatment, but requires precise selection of antibiotics and a fairly long course, otherwise it becomes chronic.

Discharge from the urethra in men
Discharge from the urethra in men is a common complaint, most often associated with urethritis, that is, inflammation of the urethral mucosa. The discharge varies in type: abundant purulent discharge is characteristic of gonorrhea, scanty mucous or transparent discharge is characteristic of chlamydial and other non-gonococcal infections, and curdled discharge is characteristic of candidiasis. However, it is impossible to make a diagnosis based on appearance: very often infections are combined, and sometimes the cause is not at all related to sexual intercourse. Self-medication with antibiotics blurs the picture and leads to a chronic course, so when discharge appears, you need to be examined by a urologist.

Fournier's gangrene
Fournier's gangrene is an extremely severe, rapidly spreading infection of the soft tissues of the perineum, scrotum and anterior abdominal wall. Microbes destroy not so much the skin as the fascia - dense membranes through which the infection quickly spreads in depth and breadth, causing tissue necrosis and severe poisoning of the body. A distinctive feature of the disease is the discrepancy between modest changes in the skin in the first hours and very severe pain and severe general condition. Most often, men with diabetes and other conditions that weaken protection are affected. This is an urgent surgical disease: without urgent surgery it is fatal, and a delay of even a few hours sharply worsens the prognosis.
