Prostate adenoma (BPH)
Prostate adenoma, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is a growth of prostate tissue that compresses the urethra and interferes with the normal flow of urine. This is not cancer or a precancerous condition, but it is BPH that most often spoils the quality of life of men after fifty: frequent rises at night, a weak stream, a feeling of incomplete emptying. Without treatment, the disease can lead to complete urinary retention and kidney damage.

Overactive Bladder
Overactive bladder is a condition in which a person experiences a sudden, difficult urge to urinate, often goes to the toilet during the day and wakes up at night, and sometimes does not have time to get there. In this case, there is no infection, no stones, and standard tests turn out to be normal. This is not a “weak bubble” or an age-related norm, but an independent diagnosis that responds well to treatment.

Renal colic
Renal colic is an attack of acute pain that occurs when there is a sudden disruption of the outflow of urine from the kidney. Most often, its cause is a stone that has descended into the ureter. The pain is so severe that the person cannot find a position in which it becomes easier. Colic is not a diagnosis, but a signal: the kidney is blocked, and you need to understand why exactly and how to quickly restore the outflow.

Urethritis
Urethritis is inflammation of the urethra. It manifests itself as a burning sensation when urinating and discharge, and in most cases in men is associated with sexually transmitted infections. The main mistake with urethritis is self-medication with a random antibiotic: the symptoms subside, the pathogen remains, and after months complications develop - from prostatitis to cicatricial stricture of the urethra.

Blood in the urine (hematuria)
Blood in the urine is not an independent disease, but a symptom that always requires an explanation. It may be a manifestation of a harmless condition, or it may be the only early sign of a bladder or kidney tumor. The most dangerous misconception is to believe that if there is no more blood and nothing hurts, then everything has passed. It is painless hematuria that is most suspicious of oncology.

Neurogenic bladder
Neurogenic bladder is a disorder of urine storage and emptying caused not by the bladder itself, but by damage to the nervous system that controls it. This condition accompanies spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, stroke, diabetic neuropathy and other neurological diseases. The main danger here is not the inconvenience, but the fact that in some forms the kidneys are gradually and imperceptibly damaged.

Chronic kidney disease
Chronic kidney disease is a gradual and irreversible decline in kidney function that occurs without any symptoms for many years. The kidneys have a huge margin of safety: complaints appear when more than half of their capacity has already been lost. Therefore, CKD is detected not by how you feel, but by two simple tests - blood creatinine with calculation of GFR and determination of protein in the urine.

Acute urinary retention
Acute urinary retention is a condition in which the bladder is full, the urge is painful, and it is impossible to urinate. This is a urological emergency: it is dangerous to endure, wait until the morning, or try to “get wet” with a warm bath. An overfilled bladder puts pressure on the kidneys, and overstretching it can irreversibly damage the muscle and prevent normal urination even after the cause has been eliminated.

Vesicoureteral reflux
Vesicoureteral reflux is the backflow of urine from the bladder into the ureter and kidney. Normally, the place where the ureter enters the bladder acts as a valve and allows urine to flow in only one direction. When this mechanism fails, infected urine rises under pressure to the kidney, causing pyelonephritis and gradual scarring of the kidney tissue - reflux nephropathy.

Ureteral stricture
Ureteral stricture is a scar-like narrowing of the lumen of the ureter, due to which the outflow of urine from the kidney is disrupted. The insidiousness of this condition is that it usually develops slowly and almost without pain: the kidney gradually expands, its tissue becomes thinner, and a person learns about the problem by chance on an ultrasound or after a significant loss of organ function.
