Thrush in men (candida balanoposthitis)
Thrush in men is candidal balanitis or balanoposthitis, an inflammation of the glans penis and foreskin caused by yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida. These fungi live in small quantities on the skin and mucous membranes, and the disease occurs when the balance is disturbed: with diabetes, after a course of antibiotics, against the background of decreased immunity, narrow foreskin and insufficient hygiene. Typical complaints are itching, burning, redness and a white cheesy coating with a sour odor, pain during urination and sexual intercourse. The condition is highly treatable, but persistence or recurrence almost always means there is an underlying cause that needs to be found.

Cloudy urine
Normal urine is clear and light yellow. Turbidity appears when too little water is dissolved in it or, conversely, too many suspended particles: salts, cells, mucus, bacteria. The most common and harmless reason is concentrated urine due to lack of fluids, heat, or after sleep; such urine clears up as soon as a person begins to drink more. The second most common cause is a urinary tract infection, and then pain, frequent urges and an unpleasant odor are added to the cloudiness. Less commonly, cloudiness is caused by salts, an admixture of secretions, semen, as well as serious conditions with pus, blood or lymph in the urine. A simple urine test helps figure it out.

Diabetes insipidus
Diabetes insipidus is a rare disease in which the kidneys lose their ability to retain water, and the body excretes large volumes of light-colored urine. It has nothing to do with diabetes: the glucose level is normal, and the problem is with the hormone vasopressin. Either the pituitary gland stops producing it after injury, surgery, tumor or inflammation, or the kidneys stop responding to it. A person excretes from three to twenty liters of urine per day and is forced to drink the same amount, otherwise dehydration quickly sets in as sodium levels in the blood rise. The condition is well controlled with treatment, but requires accurate diagnosis - it is important to distinguish it from diabetes mellitus and from the habit of drinking a lot.

Nephrocalcinosis
Nephrocalcinosis is a condition in which calcium salts are deposited directly in the kidney tissue, rather than forming stones in the abdominal system. Most often, deposits appear in the medulla, around the kidney tubules, and gradually disrupt their function. This is not a separate disease, but a sign of an metabolic or hormonal disorder: excess calcium in the blood and urine, problems with urine acidification, excess vitamin D, hereditary tubulopathies. Nephrocalcinosis is usually found by chance on an ultrasound because it does not hurt for a long time. The main task of the doctor is to find the cause, because without eliminating it, deposits continue to accumulate.

Nephrosclerosis (shrinked kidney)
Nephrosclerosis is the replacement of the working tissue of the kidney with connective, scar tissue. At the same time, the kidney decreases in size, its surface becomes uneven, hence the popular name “wrinkled kidney”. Nephrosclerosis is not an independent disease, but the outcome of long-term damage: most often it is caused by long-term arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, chronic pyelonephritis and glomerulonephritis. The number of working glomeruli decreases, and the kidney purifies the blood worse. The process develops slowly and remains unnoticed for a long time, so it is usually detected through analysis. It is impossible to completely restore scar tissue, but it is quite possible to slow down the progression.

Nephrotic syndrome
Nephrotic syndrome is a complex of disorders that occurs when the renal glomeruli are damaged: a large amount of protein is lost in the urine, which is why its level in the blood drops, severe edema appears and cholesterol rises. It is not a separate disease, but a consequence of various conditions - from primary kidney diseases to diabetes, systemic diseases and infections. In children, the most common form is one that responds well to treatment with hormones; in adults, the causes are more varied. The syndrome is dangerous due to complications: thrombosis, infections and decreased kidney function, so examination and treatment cannot be delayed.

Bedwetting in adults
Bedwetting in an adult is involuntary urination during sleep, which has persisted since childhood or has reappeared. This is not a sign of laziness or weak will and not something that needs to be hidden: there is almost always a specific medical reason behind it. Most often, these are an overactive bladder, obstruction of urine flow, disruption of the hormone that reduces urine production at night, as well as sleep apnea, diabetes, urinary tract infections and neurological diseases. Alcohol, sleeping pills and diuretics play a separate role. Since there are many reasons, you need to talk to your doctor: in most cases, the condition is treatable.

Wilms tumor (nephroblastoma)
Wilms tumor, or nephroblastoma, is the most common malignant kidney tumor in children. It develops from embryonic kidney tissue that has not completed its maturation, so the disease is characteristic of an early age: most cases occur between two and five years. The tumor grows inside the kidney, usually quickly, but remains painless for a long time, and most often it is discovered by parents who accidentally feel a dense formation in the abdomen while bathing or dressing the child. Despite its malignant nature, modern treatment gives very good results: the vast majority of children with a localized form recover.

Pyelonephritis during pregnancy
Pyelonephritis during pregnancy is an inflammation of the renal pelvis and kidney tissue caused by bacteria, most often Escherichia coli. During pregnancy, progesterone relaxes the ureters, and the growing uterus squeezes them, so urine flows more slowly and the infection rises up from the bladder more easily. The disease usually begins in the second or third trimester and presents with high fever, chills and lower back pain. This is not a condition that can be treated at home with herbs: untreated pyelonephritis increases the risk of premature birth and sepsis, so it almost always requires hospitalization and antibiotics that are safe during pregnancy.

Pyelonephritis in children
Pyelonephritis in children is a bacterial inflammation of the kidney tissue and pelvis, the most serious form of urinary tract infection in childhood. Bacteria, most often E. coli, rise from the bladder up the ureter. The main sign is a high temperature without a runny nose or cough; in young children this is often the only sign. The danger is that repeated episodes can leave scars in the kidney tissue and subsequently lead to hypertension and decreased kidney function. Therefore, if a child has an unexplained fever, a urine test is required, and treatment begins quickly.
