Flat feet
Flat feet is a flattening of the longitudinal or transverse arch of the foot, in which it partially loses the ability to spring and absorb shock with each step. More misconceptions have accumulated around this diagnosis than around any other orthopedic topic. The main one concerns children: until about five or six years of age, a child’s flat foot is not a disease, but a normal stage of development, because the arch at this age is covered with a fat pad, and the ligaments are physiologically elastic. The second misconception concerns adults: it is believed that any flat feet need to be treated with insoles. In fact, painless flat feet that do not interfere with walking and working most often do not require any treatment at all. But the arch, which began to fall after forty years on one leg and is accompanied by pain on the inside of the ankle, is a completely different situation, and it needs to be taken seriously.

Different leg lengths
Different leg lengths are more common than people think: most people have a slight difference and do not manifest themselves in any way. A difference of about two centimeters is of clinical significance, when the gait and position of the pelvis change, and an asymmetrical load is placed on the spine. A distinction is made between true shortening, in which the bone is actually shorter, and functional, when the length of the bones is the same, but the leg appears shorter due to pelvic distortion, joint contracture, scoliosis or foot deformity. The approach to them is different: in the first case, the difference is compensated, in the second, the cause of the imbalance is eliminated. Therefore, you need to start with the correct measurement.

Rotator cuff tear
The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and their tendons that surround the head of the humerus, hold it in place and allow the arm to lift and rotate. Its rupture can be acute, after a fall on the hand or a jerk while lifting a weight, but much more often it develops gradually: the tendon wears out over the years and breaks from habitual movement. Typical complaints are pain in the shoulder, radiating along the outer surface of the arm, the inability to sleep on the affected side, and weakness when raising the arm above the head. Small tears can be successfully treated without surgery; large and acute tears in active people often require surgical repair.

Osteochondritis dissecans (Konig's disease)
Osteochondritis dissecans is a condition in which a small area of bone under the articular cartilage loses nutrition and separates along with the cartilage covering it. Most often, the medial condyle of the femur in the knee is affected; less commonly, the trochlea of the talus in the ankle and the head of the condyle of the humerus in the elbow are affected. Mostly teenagers and young adults who are actively involved in sports are affected. While the fragment remains in place, vague pain and swelling after exercise are bothersome. If it separates, a loose body appears in the joint - the so-called joint mouse, which causes clicking, jamming and damage to the cartilage. In children with unclosed growth zones, the defect often heals on its own; in adults, surgery is more often required.

Symphysitis during pregnancy
Symphysitis is pain and increased mobility in the symphysis pubis, the junction of the two pubic bones. During pregnancy, the body produces relaxin and progesterone, which soften the pelvic ligaments, preparing the birth canal for the passage of the child. In some women, the ligaments stretch excessively, the joint becomes unstable, and characteristic pain appears in the pubis, radiating to the groin and inner thighs. It becomes especially noticeable that it becomes difficult to turn over in bed, climb stairs and stand on one leg. The condition is unpleasant, but in the vast majority of cases it goes away in the first weeks or months after childbirth.

Sudeck's syndrome (complex regional pain syndrome)
Sudeck's syndrome, or complex regional pain syndrome, is a condition in which, after injury or surgery, pain in a limb does not decrease, but becomes disproportionately severe and spreads beyond the damaged area. Along with pain, swelling, changes in skin color and temperature, sweating, joint stiffness, and later, thinning of the skin and thinning of bone tissue appear. The reason is a malfunction of the nervous system and local regulation of blood vessels, and not a poorly healed fracture. The key point is time: the sooner active rehabilitation and pain relief are started, the higher the chance of full recovery. Prolonged immobility, on the contrary, aggravates the process.

Iliotibial tract syndrome
The iliotibial tract is a dense band of tendon along the outer surface of the thigh that runs from the pelvis to the tibia and stabilizes the knee when running and walking. With repeated flexion and extension, its lower part compresses the soft tissue above the outer femoral condyle, and irritation and pain develop there. This is one of the most common causes of pain on the outside of the knee in runners and cyclists. A characteristic feature is that the pain appears at approximately the same distance or time of running, forces you to stop and quickly subsides with rest, only to return at the next workout. The condition does not destroy the joint, but without changing the training plan and strengthening the pelvic muscles, it stubbornly returns.

Tarsal tunnel syndrome
Tarsal tunnel syndrome is compression of the tibial nerve in a narrow fibrous tunnel behind the medial malleolus. This condition can be called an analogue of carpal tunnel syndrome, only for the foot. The nerve and its branches are responsible for the sensitivity of the sole and the work of the small muscles of the foot, therefore, when compressed, burning, tingling, numbness and pain appear in the sole and toes, which intensify when standing and walking and often disturb at night. The cause may be swelling, varicose veins in the canal, a cyst, the consequences of an ankle fracture, flat feet with the foot falling inward. The diagnosis is confirmed by electroneuromyography, and treatment begins with conservative measures.

Tietze syndrome (inflammation of the costal cartilage)
Tietze syndrome is a benign inflammation of the cartilaginous part of one, or less often two or three, upper ribs at their junction with the sternum. The main difference from other chest pains is a dense, painful swelling that can be felt with your fingers. The pain intensifies with a deep breath, coughing, turning the body and applying pressure, and can radiate to the shoulder and arm. This is why people often get scared and think about the heart. The syndrome is not life-threatening, does not develop into a tumor, and usually goes away within weeks or months, although it may return. But before you calm down, it is important to rule out truly dangerous causes of chest pain.

Synovitis
Synovitis is an inflammation of the synovium, the inner lining of the joint that produces joint fluid. With inflammation, the fluid becomes larger, it changes composition, and the joint bursts from the inside: swelling, limited movement and pain appear. Most often the knee joint is affected, less often the ankle, elbow and wrist. Synovitis is not an independent disease, but a reaction of the joint to damage, infection, arthrosis, gout or a systemic disease. Therefore, the main thing is to find the cause, and not just remove the liquid. It is especially important to quickly exclude purulent synovitis: in this case, the joint is sharply painful, hot, and the condition worsens over hours.
