Spondylolisthesis (vertebral displacement)
Spondylolisthesis is a displacement of one vertebra relative to the underlying one, often forward. The lumbar region is usually affected, especially the levels L4–L5 and L5–S1. In young people and athletes, the cause is often a defect of the vertebral arch (spondylolysis); in older people, it is wear and tear of the intervertebral disc and joints. Degenerative spondylolisthesis is more common in women over 50 years of age. The misalignment disrupts the stability of the spine and can narrow the spinal canal, compressing the nerve roots. It manifests itself as pain in the lower back, sometimes radiating to the legs, numbness and fatigue when walking. A slight displacement is often asymptomatic. The diagnosis is confirmed by radiography and MRI. Most patients benefit from conservative treatment, and surgery is needed when the displacement progresses and persistent neurological impairments occur.

Charcot foot (neuroosteoarthropathy)
Charcot's foot is a destruction of the bones and joints of the foot that develops against the background of severe nerve damage, most often with long-term diabetes mellitus. Due to loss of sensitivity, a person does not feel microtrauma and continues to load the foot, and the altered nervous regulation increases blood flow to the bone and accelerates its resorption. The bones gradually break and shift, the arch of the foot collapses, and a characteristic deformity forms. The main danger is that there is almost no pain: the foot simply swells, turns red and becomes hot, and this is often mistaken for inflammation or bruise. Diagnosis at an early stage and complete unloading of the foot allows you to maintain its shape and avoid ulcers and amputation.

Tendinitis
Tendinitis is damage to the tendon that occurs when a load exceeds the tissue's ability to recover. The tendon connects the muscle to the bone and works like an elastic spring, but with frequent similar movements, micro-tears accumulate in it. There is pain at a certain point, stiffness after sleep and a feeling that the tendon is “developed” at the beginning of the movement. The most commonly affected areas are the Achilles tendon, rotator cuff tendons, elbow, knee and wrist. Modern research shows that in most cases this is not classical inflammation, but tissue restructuring, so it is not rest and injections that work best, but a gradual dosed load.

Achilles tendonitis
Achilles tendonitis is a painful condition of the body's strongest tendon, which connects the calf muscles to the heel bone. Despite the usual name with the ending indicating inflammation, tendinopathy is more often the basis: overload leads to microdamage and restructuring of tendon tissue without classic inflammation. The typical picture is pain and morning stiffness in the area a few centimeters above the heel, which intensifies at the beginning of the load, subsides briefly when warming up and returns after training. The condition responds well to treatment, but requires time and regular exercise; If ignored, the risk of tendon rupture increases.

Tenosynovitis de Quervain
De Quervain's tenosynovitis is inflammation and thickening of the canal in which the abductor and extensor tendons of the thumb pass. The canal is located at the styloid process of the radius, on the lateral surface of the wrist. When its walls thicken, the tendons become cramped: movements of the thumb and abduction of the hand towards the little finger result in acute pain. The condition is typical for young mothers who often raise the child, as well as for people who type a lot, work with tools or telephones. The diagnosis is made by examination and a characteristic test, and treatment begins with rest, orthosis and physical therapy - surgery is needed only if these measures are ineffective.

Trochanteritis (bursitis of the hip joint)
Trochanteritis is pain and inflammation in the greater trochanter, a bony protrusion on the outer surface of the thigh. Previously, the condition was considered only an inflammation of the bursa; today they more often talk about damage to the tendons of the gluteus medius and minimus muscles, which are attached to this trochanter. A typical complaint is pain on the side of the thigh, which prevents lying on that side, worsens when walking, climbing stairs and getting up from a chair. The pain may radiate along the outer surface of the thigh to the knee, but does not go below the knee. The condition is often mistaken for arthrosis or disc herniation, although it is treated differently.

Chondromalacia patella
Chondromalacia patella is softening and damage to the cartilage on the inner surface of the kneecap. The patella slides along the groove of the femur, and if it moves off-center, the cartilage experiences excess pressure in one area. The pain is felt around or under the kneecap and worsens when going down stairs, squats, running, or after sitting for a long time with bent legs. Crunching and clicking sounds are often heard. The condition is especially common in teenagers, runners, and people who have increased their workload dramatically. In most cases, it is not rest or surgery that helps, but a properly selected exercise program.

Chondrosarcoma
Chondrosarcoma is a malignant tumor whose cells produce cartilage tissue. It ranks high among primary malignant bone tumors in adults and most often occurs in the pelvis, femur, humerus, ribs, and scapula. Unlike many other sarcomas, it usually grows slowly, so it often takes months from the first complaint to treatment. A typical complaint is deep aching pain in the bone, which is not associated with movement, worsens at night and does not go away with rest. The peculiarity of the tumor is that it is poorly sensitive to chemotherapy and radiation treatment, so surgical removal remains the main method.

Crunching in joints
Crunching, clicking and cracking in the joints is a very common complaint, and most often it is harmless. The main reason for the painless sound is cavitation: gas bubbles in the joint fluid collapse when the pressure changes. This crunch does not damage the cartilage and does not lead to arthrosis. The sound can also occur when a tendon or ligament slips over a bony protrusion, or when there is increased joint mobility. It is not the sounds themselves that should be alarming, but what accompanies them: pain, swelling, stiffness in the morning, limitation of movements or a feeling of blockage. These are already signs of damage to the cartilage, meniscus or inflammation, and here a doctor’s examination is needed.

Snapping finger (stenosing ligamentitis)
Snapping finger, or stenosing ligamentitis, is a condition in which the flexor tendon has difficulty passing through the annular ligament at the base of the finger. The tendon thickens, the ligament narrows, and the finger suddenly snaps when bent and straightens with a noticeable click. At first it’s just an unpleasant crunch in the morning, then the finger begins to get stuck in a bent position, and you have to straighten it with the other hand. The thumb, middle and ring fingers are most often affected in people after forty years of age, especially with diabetes mellitus and manual work. The disease is not life-threatening, but without treatment it can lead to permanent contracture.
