Infectious (septic) arthritis
Septic arthritis is the entry of bacteria into the joint cavity with the development of purulent inflammation. Most often, one large joint suffers, usually the knee or hip: in a matter of hours or days it becomes hot, swollen, sharply painful, and the person cannot move it. The temperature almost always rises. The infection enters the joint with blood from another source, during injury, injection or surgery. Infective endocarditis
Infectious endocarditis is an inflammation of the inner lining of the heart and valves caused by bacteria or fungi that have entered the blood. Loose deposits of microbes, platelets and fibrin form on the valves; they destroy the valve and come off in pieces, clogging the vessels of the brain, kidneys, spleen and limbs. The disease is life-threatening and requires hospital treatment. It should be suspected in case of prolonged unexplained fever with chills, especially in people with a valve defect or prosthesis, after dental and surgical interventions, with intravenous drug use and the presence of an indwelling vascular catheter. Key studies are blood cultures and echocardiography.

Campylobacteriosis
Campylobacteriosis is an acute intestinal infection caused by bacteria of the genus Campylobacter, most often Campylobacter jejuni. It is one of the most common causes of bacterial diarrhea in the world. The main source is poultry that has not undergone sufficient heat treatment, as well as unpasteurized milk, contaminated water and contact with pets. The bacterium damages the mucous membrane of the small and large intestines, so the disease is more severe than a normal eating disorder: with high fever, severe cramping pain in the abdomen and blood in the stool. Most people recover within a week, but you need to replace fluid loss from day one.

Candidiasis of the esophagus and intestines
Esophageal candidiasis is a fungal inflammation of the mucous membrane caused by yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida. These fungi live in small numbers in the mouth and intestines of healthy people and only become a problem when local or general defenses are weakened. The typical picture is pain and burning when swallowing, a scratching sensation behind the sternum, and sometimes a white coating in the mouth. Endoscopy reveals characteristic white plaques on the red mucosa. Esophageal candidiasis is almost never an accident: it indicates reduced immunity, uncompensated diabetes mellitus, a recent course of antibiotics or the use of inhaled hormones. Therefore, not only the fungus is treated, but also the cause.

Klebsiella (klebsiella infection)
Klebsiella is a bacterium that normally lives in the human intestines and mucous membranes without causing harm. Its detection in a stool culture or smear does not in itself mean a disease and often does not require treatment. Problems begin when the microbe gets into places where it shouldn't be: in the urinary tract, lungs, blood, wound. Then cystitis and pyelonephritis, pneumonia, wound suppuration or severe infection develop in a weakened person. Klebsiella is one of the main nosocomial bacteria, and its strains are often resistant to many antibiotics. Therefore, treatment is prescribed not based on the findings in the analysis, but on the basis of symptoms and culture results with sensitivity determination.

Crimean hemorrhagic fever
Crimean hemorrhagic fever is a severe viral infection transmitted by ixodid ticks of the genus Hyalomma. The virus enters the bloodstream when a tick bites, when it is crushed by hand, as well as through contact with the blood of infected animals during slaughter and cutting of carcasses. The disease begins suddenly with high fever and aches, and after a few days it can enter the hemorrhagic phase with bleeding gums, nosebleeds and bruises on the skin. CCHF is life-threatening and requires treatment in an infectious diseases hospital, and is also dangerous for those who care for the patient without protection. Therefore, any fever after a tick bite or working with livestock should be seen by a doctor immediately.

Q fever
Q fever is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Coxiella burnetii. Its main source is farm animals: goats, sheep and cattle. The pathogen is released in huge quantities during lambing and calving, gets into the dust and remains viable in a dry environment for months, so infection most often occurs through inhalation of contaminated dust, rather than through direct contact. Many people experience the infection asymptomatically or as a lingering flu with high fever, severe headache and sweating. The danger is the chronic form, which develops months later and affects the heart valves and blood vessels.

Leishmaniasis
Leishmaniasis is a parasitic infection caused by the protozoan Leishmania; They are transmitted to humans by the bite of small blood-sucking mosquitoes. There are two main forms found in Central Asia. The skin begins with a dense nodule on an open area of the body, which gradually turns into a long-term non-healing ulcer and leaves a retracted scar. Visceral affects the spleen, liver and bone marrow: undulating fever, abdominal enlargement, anemia and weight loss appear. The cutaneous form is dangerous primarily due to a cosmetic defect and the addition of a bacterial infection; the visceral form, without treatment, is life-threatening, especially in young children. The diagnosis is confirmed by detecting the pathogen in the material from the ulcer or in the puncture, and the treatment regimen is selected by an infectious disease specialist.

Leptospirosis
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection caused by the spiral-shaped microorganism Leptospira. They are excreted in the urine of rodents, dogs, cattle and pigs, and humans become infected through water, wet soil and feed. The bacterium penetrates through microcracks in the skin, mucous membranes of the mouth and eyes, so swimming in a stagnant body of water, working barefoot to irrigate and cleaning basements are risky. The disease begins acutely, with high fever and severe pain in the calf muscles. In some people it is limited to a flu-like form, but in others a severe version develops with jaundice, kidney failure and bleeding. The earlier antibiotics are started, the better the outcome.

Listeriosis
Listeriosis is an infection caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. Infection occurs through food: soft cheeses made from unpasteurized milk, ready-made salads, deli meats, cold smoked fish. The peculiarity of Listeria is that it multiplies even in the refrigerator, so long-stored prepared foods are dangerous. In a healthy adult, the disease most often occurs as mild food poisoning and goes away on its own. Pregnant women, newborns, the elderly and people with reduced immunity are seriously ill: in them listeria can cause meningitis, sepsis, and during pregnancy - miscarriage or infection in the child. That is why when a pregnant woman has a fever, listeriosis is always kept in mind.
