Kraurosis of the vulva (lichen sclerosus)
Kraurosis of the vulva is an outdated name for lichen sclerosus, a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin of the external genitalia. The skin becomes thinner, becomes shiny and whitish, loses elasticity, cracks appear, and the labia minora and clitoris gradually smooth out. The leading symptom is debilitating itching, especially at night. The reason is related to autoimmune mechanisms, so the disease is not contagious and is not sexually transmitted. It is important to know: without treatment, the changes progress, and the risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva increases, so regular monitoring by a gynecologist is mandatory.

Bleeding in postmenopause
Postmenopause is considered the period beginning one year after the last menstruation. Any spotting at this time - from pink spotting to heavy bleeding - is considered an abnormality and requires examination. Most often, the cause turns out to be benign: atrophy of the uterine and vaginal mucosa, polyp, taking hormonal drugs or blood thinners. But this is how endometrial cancer can first appear, which can be successfully treated at an early stage. Therefore, the rule is simple: do not wait, do not blame it on the return of your period and do not treat yourself, but consult a gynecologist.

Bloody discharge between periods
Intermenstrual bleeding is any blood from the genital tract outside the expected days of menstruation: from a barely noticeable brown spot to full-blown bleeding. Sometimes the reason is harmless: a short spot in the middle of the cycle against the background of an ovulatory drop in estrogen, the first months of taking contraceptives, an installed IUD. But the same discharge results from endometrial or cervical polyps, erosion, chronic inflammation, fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia, and in older women - precancerous changes and cancer. A separate situation is blood after sexual intercourse, which always requires examination of the cervix. Therefore, recurring intermenstrual discharge is not observed at home, but is shown to a gynecologist.

Leukoplakia of the vulva
Leukoplakia of the vulva is the appearance of dense whitish areas on the mucous membrane and skin of the external genitalia that cannot be washed off or removed. This is not an independent disease, but a description of changes: they may be behind lichen sclerosis, chronic irritation, estrogen deficiency after menopause, and, less often, precancerous changes in the epithelium. A woman is most often bothered by persistent itching, especially at night, dryness, burning and pain during intimacy. The main thing you need to know is that white areas on the vulva cannot be treated at random with ointments and folk remedies, because some of these changes require a biopsy and observation by a gynecologist.

Leukoplakia of the cervix
Leukoplakia of the cervix is an area of keratinization of the squamous epithelium, which upon examination looks like a white spot or plaque. This in itself is not a diagnosis, but a description of what the doctor sees: the same picture may hide harmless thickening of the epithelium and precancerous changes. Therefore, the approach is always the same - to clarify what exactly is under the white layer using colposcopy, cytology, a test for the human papillomavirus and, if necessary, a biopsy. Simple leukoplakia without atypia is usually observed, and if dysplasia is detected, treatment is carried out according to the rules adopted for it.

Mastalgia (breast pain)
Mastalgia is pain, heaviness or painful sensitivity of the mammary glands. This is one of the most common reasons for visiting a mammologist. Most often, the pain is cyclical: it increases in the second half of the cycle under the influence of sex hormones and disappears with the onset of menstruation. Non-cyclical pain does not depend on the cycle and can be associated with cysts, inflammation, sprains or taking hormonal drugs. Sometimes it’s not the gland that hurts, but the chest wall—the muscles, ribs, cartilage. Isolated pain is rarely a sign of cancer, but persistent local pain, thickening or skin changes require evaluation. A correct diagnosis allows you to calm down and find relief.

Thrush during pregnancy
Thrush during pregnancy is an inflammation of the vaginal mucosa caused by yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida. These fungi live in small quantities in many healthy women, and during pregnancy they receive an advantage: hormonal levels change, there is more glycogen in the mucous membrane, and local immunity is slightly reduced. As a result, exacerbations occur in a significant proportion of pregnant women, often repeatedly. Thrush manifests itself as itching, burning and thick cheesy discharge. It is usually not dangerous for a child in the uterus, but it needs to be treated: untreated candidiasis causes severe discomfort and can be transmitted to the baby during childbirth.

Multifollicular ovaries
Multifollicular ovaries are not a disease, but a description of the ultrasound picture: more small follicles are visible in the ovary. This picture occurs in completely healthy women, especially in adolescents and young women, in women on hormonal contraception and on certain days of the cycle. The only concern is that the wording sounds similar to polycystic ovary syndrome, and it is often mistaken for a diagnosis. Polycystic ovary syndrome is diagnosed only when there is a combination of symptoms: rare or absent ovulation, increased levels of male hormones or their manifestations, and a characteristic ultrasound picture. If the cycle is regular and there are no complaints, the ultrasound finding does not require treatment.

Nabothian cysts of the cervix
Nabothian cysts are small blisters on the surface of the cervix filled with mucus. They are formed when the excretory duct of the cervical gland is closed by the squamous epithelium that has grown on top, and the gland continues to produce secretions. This is not a tumor or a precancerous condition, but a normal stage of cervical healing, so in most women such cysts are an accidental finding during examination or ultrasound and do not require treatment. Only large or multiple cysts that cause complaints deserve attention, as well as situations where they may conceal inflammation that requires treatment. Removal is not the rule, but the exception.

Luteal phase deficiency
Luteal phase deficiency is a condition in which the second half of the menstrual cycle is too short or the corpus luteum produces little progesterone. It is progesterone that prepares the uterine lining for implantation of the embryo and supports early pregnancy, so difficulties with conception and early pregnancy losses are associated with this condition. Women notice a shortening of their cycle, spotting a few days before menstruation, sometimes breast tenderness and mood swings. It is important to understand: there is no single recognized way to make such a diagnosis, and the deficiency itself is almost always secondary - behind it there is another, quite detectable reason.
