Heavy menstruation (menorrhagia)
Menorrhagia is heavy and prolonged menstruation, during which blood loss is noticeably higher than usual and disrupts the usual rhythm of life. The guidelines are simple: menstruation lasts longer than seven days, you have to change a pad or tampon more often than once every two hours, you have large clots, you have to get up at night to change hygiene products, or you have to give up work and travel. The main danger is the gradual development of iron deficiency anemia with weakness, shortness of breath and hair loss. The reasons are varied: from fibroids and polyps to blood clotting disorders and thyroid diseases, so you should not endure and wait.

Parametritis
Parametritis is an inflammation of the tissue surrounding the uterus and filling the space between the leaves of the broad ligament. This loose tissue is rich in blood vessels and lymphatic pathways, so the infection spreads quickly through it. Parametritis develops most often after childbirth, abortion, curettage or surgery on the uterus, as well as with advanced inflammation of its mucous membrane. Typical signs are persistent high temperature, constant pain in the lower abdomen with radiation to the lower back and sacrum, a dense painful infiltrate, which the doctor determines upon examination. Without timely treatment, an abscess forms that requires opening, so therapy begins in a hospital.

Paraovarian cyst (ovarian cyst)
A paraovarian cyst is a cavity formation that forms not in the ovary itself, but next to it, between the ovary and the fallopian tube, in the thickness of the broad ligament of the uterus. It develops from the remains of the embryonic ducts and is a thin-walled sac with clear liquid. Such a cyst is almost always benign, grows very slowly and does not affect hormonal levels and ovulation. Small cysts do not manifest themselves in any way and are discovered by chance on an ultrasound. The main difference from functional ovarian cysts is that a paraovarian cyst does not disappear on its own and cannot be treated with drugs, so tactics depend on its size and complaints.

Pelvioperitonitis (inflammation of the pelvic peritoneum)
Pelvioperitonitis is an inflammation of the peritoneum lining the pelvic cavity. This is not an independent disease, but a complication: most often the infection spreads from inflamed fallopian tubes and ovaries, less often - after childbirth, abortion, surgery, insertion of an intrauterine device or when a purulent formation of the appendages ruptures. The woman feels a sharp pain in the lower abdomen, the temperature rises, chills, nausea, and muscle tension in the anterior abdominal wall appear. The condition requires urgent hospitalization: without treatment, inflammation can spread to the entire abdominal cavity and lead to sepsis, and in the long term to adhesions, chronic pain and infertility.

Ovarian torsion
Ovarian torsion is an acute condition in which the ovary, together with the fallopian tube, rotates around its ligament and compresses the supplying vessels. First, the venous outflow is disrupted, the organ swells and enlarges, then the arterial inflow is blocked, and without help the ovarian tissue dies. Most often, torsion occurs with an enlarged ovary: with a cyst, after stimulation of ovulation, with a tumor, as well as in girls and adolescents whose ligaments are longer. The main symptom is sudden, severe, one-sided pain in the lower abdomen, often with nausea and vomiting. This is an indication for emergency surgery: with quick intervention, the ovary can be saved.

Cervical polyp
Cervical polyp is a benign growth of the mucous membrane of the cervical canal, which protrudes into the lumen of the canal or into the vagina. This is one of the most common findings during a routine gynecological examination, and in most cases it is not dangerous. But the polyp has two features, because of which it is not ignored: it produces bloody discharge, which a woman easily mistakes for a cycle failure, and it is externally indistinguishable from rare malignant formations - only histology after removal gives the final answer.

Postpartum endometritis
Postpartum endometritis is a bacterial inflammation of the inner lining of the uterus that occurs in the first days or weeks after childbirth. After the birth of the placenta, a large wound surface remains on the wall of the uterus, and the cervical canal is open, so microbes from the vagina easily enter. More often, the disease develops after a cesarean section, a long anhydrous period and retained parts of the placenta. It is manifested by fever, pain in the lower abdomen and cloudy discharge with an unpleasant odor. This is an emergency condition: without treatment, inflammation can spread to the entire uterus and peritoneum, so if you have a fever after childbirth, you should consult a doctor immediately.

Premature ovarian failure (ovarian wasting)
Premature ovarian failure is a condition in which the ovaries stop working fully before the age of 40. Menstruation becomes infrequent or disappears, estrogen levels decrease, hot flashes, dryness, sleep and mood disturbances appear, and fertility plummets. This is not the same as regular menopause: in some women, ovarian function resumes sporadically, and pregnancy, although rare, occurs on its own. The main thing you need to know: long-term estrogen deficiency at a young age harms bones and blood vessels, so replacement therapy is prescribed not for comfort, but to protect health.

Fallopian tube cancer
Fallopian tube cancer is a rare malignant tumor of the female genital organs. Today it is known that many tumors that were previously classified as ovarian cancer actually begin at the end of the fallopian tube, so cancer of the tube, ovary and peritoneum is considered as a single group and treated according to general principles. The disease is more common in women after menopause. Watery or bloody discharge, paroxysmal pain in the lower abdomen and a formation detected during examination or ultrasound should be alarming. There are no early screening tests, so attention to discharge that is atypical for age is important.

Sheehan syndrome (postpartum hypopituitarism)
Sheehan syndrome is pituitary insufficiency that develops after childbirth, complicated by large blood loss and a drop in pressure. During pregnancy, the pituitary gland enlarges and becomes very sensitive to a lack of blood supply, so during massive bleeding, some of its cells die. As a result, the body lacks the hormones that control the thyroid, adrenal glands, ovaries and milk production. The first sign is usually a lack of milk, then menstruation does not return, weakness, chilliness, hair loss, and decreased blood pressure increase. The diagnosis is often made late, although replacement therapy quickly returns the woman to normal health.
