Hirsutism (excessive hair growth in women)
Hirsutism is the growth of coarse dark hair in women in areas where they usually appear only in men: above the upper lip, on the chin, around the nipples, along the midline of the abdomen, on the back and inner thighs. The basis is either an excess of male sex hormones or increased sensitivity of the hair follicles to their normal level. Most often, hirsutism is caused by polycystic ovary syndrome, less often by congenital dysfunction of the adrenal cortex, tumors, and the use of certain medications. This is not just a cosmetic problem: it may indicate a hormonal imbalance that affects your cycle, weight and ability to get pregnant.

Dermoid cyst (teratoma) of the ovary
A dermoid cyst, or mature teratoma, is a benign ovarian tumor that is formed from germ cells and therefore contains elements of ordinary tissue: fat, hair, areas of skin, and sometimes the rudiments of teeth and cartilage. It grows slowly, does not produce symptoms for years, and is often discovered incidentally during ultrasound or during pregnancy. The danger is not associated with degeneration, which occurs very rarely, but with mechanical complications: torsion of the ovarian stalk and rupture with irritation of the peritoneum. Such cysts do not resolve and are not treated with drugs, so the main method remains removal while preserving the ovary.

Dyspareunia (pain during sexual intercourse)
Dyspareunia is pain that occurs before, during or after sexual intercourse. This is not a separate disease, but a symptom that can have many causes: from banal dryness and lack of arousal to inflammation, endometriosis, adhesions and tension in the pelvic floor muscles. Doctors distinguish between superficial pain, which is felt at the entrance to the vagina, and deep pain, which occurs during deep penetration - their causes and examination are markedly different. Enduring pain is unnecessary and dangerous: it becomes permanent, leading to muscle spasms and avoidance of intimacy. Almost always the cause can be found and eliminated.

Dysfunctional uterine bleeding
Dysfunctional (in modern terminology - abnormal) uterine bleeding is any bloody discharge from the uterus that differs from normal menstruation: too heavy or prolonged periods, bleeding between menstruation, after sexual intercourse, irregular bleeding. Often the reason is associated with hormonal disorders and lack of ovulation - in adolescence, before menopause, with polycystic ovary syndrome, and thyroid diseases. But the same symptoms are caused by polyps, fibroids, adenomyosis, endometrial hyperplasia, bleeding disorders, pregnancy complications and tumors. Therefore, any unusual bleeding requires examination by a gynecologist.

Delayed menstruation
The menstrual cycle is a sensitive system controlled by the brain, ovaries and thyroid gland, so it can go wrong for many reasons. A cycle of 21 to 35 days is considered normal, and fluctuations of several days occur regularly in a healthy woman. Delay usually refers to the absence of menstruation for more than 7 days from the expected period. The first thing to rule out is pregnancy, regardless of the method of contraception. If the test is negative, the cause is sought among hormonal imbalances, stress, sudden weight loss, intense training, medications, and diseases of the ovaries and thyroid gland.

Itching and burning in the vagina
Itching and burning in the intimate area is a very common complaint, and thrush is not always behind it, although it is usually the first to be suspected. There are many more reasons: bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, allergies to hygiene products and synthetic underwear, thinning of the mucous membrane with a decrease in estrogen, skin diseases of the vulva, as well as high blood sugar in diabetes. Treatment for these conditions is different, so independently selecting candles based on advertising often does not help and blurs the picture for the doctor. A simple examination and smear can help you figure it out, but you shouldn’t put off the visit: prolonged itching noticeably impairs sleep and quality of life.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
Sexually transmitted infections are a group of diseases that are transmitted through vaginal, anal and oral contact, and some through blood and from mother to child. The pathogens are different: bacteria, viruses, protozoa. The main feature of STIs is that they often occur without symptoms, especially in women, and a person does not know about the infection for years, continuing to transmit the infection. Untreated infections rise higher along the genital tract and lead to inflammation of the appendages, prostatitis, adhesions, ectopic pregnancy and infertility. Almost all bacterial STIs are completely curable if identified early and treated with your partner.

Gartner's cyst
Gartner's cyst is a benign formation of the lateral wall of the vagina, left over from the prenatal period. The embryo has paired ducts, which give rise to part of the genital organs in boys, but should completely disappear in girls. Sometimes small fragments of them persist, accumulate fluid and turn into a smooth elastic cyst. Most often it is small, does not hurt and is discovered by chance during a gynecological examination. Complaints appear only when the size is large: discomfort during sexual intercourse, sensation of a foreign body, and sometimes difficulty inserting a tampon. Treatment is not always required; the decision is made by the gynecologist after examination.

Corpus luteum cyst
Corpus luteum cyst is a functional formation of the ovary that appears in the second half of the menstrual cycle. After the release of the egg, a corpus luteum is formed at the site of the burst follicle: a temporary gland that produces progesterone. If fluid or a little blood accumulates in its cavity, a cyst is formed, usually up to five to six centimeters in size. This is not a tumor or a precancerous condition. In most cases, such a cyst resolves on its own within one to three menstrual cycles, and during pregnancy, it quietly exists until the placenta is formed. Observation with a repeat ultrasound is usually all that is required.

Breast cyst
A breast cyst is a round formation filled with fluid. This is one of the most common findings during breast ultrasound in women 35–50 years old: cysts are formed due to dilation of the ducts under the influence of fluctuations in hormone levels. They can be single or multiple, ranging in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters, sometimes enlarge and become painful before menstruation, and often disappear after menopause. Simple cysts are benign and do not turn into cancer. However, any new lump in the breast should be shown to a doctor: only an ultrasound can distinguish a cyst from a solid tumor and determine whether additional diagnostics are needed.
