Pain and burning when urinating
Pain, burning and cramping during urination, or dysuria, is one of the most common complaints among urologists and gynecologists. Most often this is a sign of inflammation of the bladder or urethra: in women - cystitis, in men - urethritis or prostatitis. The cause may be sexually transmitted infections, inflammation of the vagina, stones passed in the urine, irritation from hygiene products and certain medications. Sometimes chronic pain syndrome of the bladder is behind similar sensations. Uncomplicated cystitis in women is treated quickly, but with fever, lower back pain, blood in the urine, in men, pregnant women and children, a doctor’s examination is necessary. You should not take antibiotics at random: this interferes with diagnosis.

Pain during ovulation (ovulatory syndrome)
Ovulatory pain is a pulling or stabbing sensation in the lower abdomen on one side that appears approximately in the middle of the menstrual cycle, when a mature follicle ruptures and the egg is released from the ovary. At this moment, the ovarian capsule stretches, and a small amount of follicular fluid and blood enters the abdominal cavity, which irritates the peritoneum. The side of pain usually varies from cycle to cycle. This pain is familiar to many women, is considered normal and lasts from several hours to two days. Pain that is severe, prolonged, or accompanied by fever and weakness should be alarming.

Vaginismus
Vaginismus is an involuntary contraction of the muscles of the pelvic floor and lower third of the vagina, which makes penetration painful or completely impossible. The spasm occurs against the will of the woman: it is a protective reaction of the body, formed by the fear of pain, and not a reluctance to close. Not only sexual intercourse can interfere, but also the insertion of a tampon or examination by a gynecologist. The condition is more common than it seems and responds well to treatment: a combination of working with a psychologist, learning to relax the pelvic floor muscles and gradual exercise with dilators helps most women. Judging and trying to endure the pain only makes the problem worse.

Varicose veins of the pelvis
Pelvic varicose veins are a condition in which the veins around the uterus and ovaries lose their tone, dilate and become filled with blood. The valves stop coping, the blood stagnates, stretches the walls of blood vessels and irritates the nerve endings. Hence the typical picture: nagging pain in the lower abdomen, which intensifies in the evening, after long standing or sitting, physical activity and sexual intercourse, and decreases after resting with elevated legs. This diagnosis is often missed, and women are treated for years for chronic inflammation of the appendages. Correctly selected treatment significantly alleviates the condition.

Vulvitis
Vulvitis is an inflammation of the external genitalia: labia majora and minora, clitoris, vestibule of the vagina. It manifests itself as itching, burning, redness, swelling and pain, which increases with urination, walking and sexual intercourse. The reasons are varied: fungal or bacterial infection, allergies to pads, soap and hygiene products, estrogen deficiency in menopause, diabetes, skin diseases. Often the inflammation spreads to the vagina, then they talk about vulvovaginitis. Treatment depends on the cause, so choosing suppositories and creams without examining a gynecologist usually does not help and delays recovery.

Vaginal discharge (leucorrhoea)
All healthy women have vaginal discharge: it moisturizes and cleanses the mucous membrane, and protects against infections. Normal discharge is clear or whitish, without an unpleasant odor, its quantity and consistency changes during the cycle, during pregnancy and against the background of hormonal contraception. Reasons to contact a gynecologist include changes in color, smell and consistency, as well as itching, burning, pain during urination or sexual intercourse. The most common causes are bacterial vaginosis, vulvovaginal candidiasis (thrush) and trichomoniasis, less often - chlamydia, gonorrhea, cervical inflammation, foreign body or tumors. The exact cause is determined only by examination and smears.

Hematometra (collection of blood in the uterine cavity)
Hematometra is an accumulation of blood in the uterine cavity due to the fact that it cannot escape. The reason is always an obstacle to the outflow: spasm or narrowing of the cervical canal, a scar after surgery, clots and tissue remains after childbirth or abortion, less often congenital septums and fusions. The typical picture is a sudden cessation of discharge against the background of increasing cramping pain in the lower abdomen, a feeling of fullness, and weakness. Stagnant blood is a good environment for microbes, so without timely help, inflammation of the uterus develops, leading to severe complications. The condition requires an urgent examination by a gynecologist and an ultrasound.

Hyperandrogenism in women
Hyperandrogenism is a condition in which androgens, that is, male sex hormones, act excessively in the female body. A small amount of them is produced in every woman by the ovaries and adrenal glands and is necessary for normal metabolism. Excess is manifested by the growth of coarse dark hair of the male type, persistent acne, oily skin, thinning hair on the head and menstrual irregularities, including difficulties with conception. The reasons are different: most often polycystic ovary syndrome, less often congenital dysfunction of the adrenal cortex, tumors and medications. The examination allows you to find the cause and select treatment.

Hyperprolactinemia (increased prolactin)
Hyperprolactinemia is a persistent increase in the level of prolactin, a pituitary hormone that is normally responsible for milk production after childbirth. Outside of pregnancy and lactation, excess prolactin suppresses the production of hormones that control the ovaries and testicles, so in women the menstrual cycle is disrupted or stopped and it becomes difficult to get pregnant, and in men libido and potency decrease. The reasons are varied: a benign tumor of the pituitary gland - prolactinoma, taking a number of medications, hypothyroidism, stress and even improper preparation for the analysis. Before prescribing treatment, the doctor must exclude reversible and laboratory causes.

Hypertrophy of the labia minora
Labia minora hypertrophy is a condition in which the labia minora protrude noticeably beyond the labia majora. There is no strict norm here: size, shape, color and asymmetry are very individual, and in the vast majority of cases this is simply a variant of anatomy that does not require any intervention. You should consult a doctor when real inconveniences arise: chafing when walking and playing sports, discomfort in tight-fitting clothes, irritation and diaper rash, pain during sexual intercourse, difficulties with hygiene. In such situations, labiaplasty is discussed - an operation to reduce and correct the shape.
