Intestinal obstruction
Intestinal obstruction is a condition in which the contents of the intestine stop moving forward. The obstacle can be mechanical, when the lumen is closed by adhesions, hernia, tumor or torsion, and functional, when the intestinal wall simply stops contracting after surgery, inflammation or serious illness. Above the obstacle, the intestine is stretched by gases and liquid, the wall swells, the blood supply deteriorates, and absorption stops. The body quickly loses water and electrolytes, and if blood flow is disrupted, a section of the intestine can become necrotic. This is an emergency situation: a combination of cramping pain, vomiting, bloating and lack of bowel movements and gas requires calling 103.

Colorectal cancer (colon cancer)
Colorectal cancer is a malignant tumor of the colon or rectum, one of the most common cancers in the world. In most cases, it develops slowly, over 10–15 years, from benign polyps - adenomas. This makes colorectal cancer one of the few that can not only be detected early, but also prevented: removing the polyp during a colonoscopy interrupts the path to cancer. In the early stages, the tumor usually does not cause symptoms, but blood in the stool, changes in stool, anemia and weight loss appear later. That is why screening is recommended for people without complaints starting at age 45, and earlier if there is an increased risk.

Lump and sore throat
A lump in the throat is a sensation of a foreign body, pressure or soreness in the neck, in which swallowing food and water is usually not impaired. The sensation may intensify with excitement and when swallowing saliva, and, on the contrary, disappear during eating. Most often, it is not caused by tumors, but by completely removable causes: reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus, chronic inflammation of the pharynx, increased tension in the neck muscles, an enlarged thyroid gland, or an anxiety disorder. However, the symptom should not be ignored: if swallowing is difficult, there is pain or weight loss, you should be examined first.

Blood in stool
Blood in the stool is not a diagnosis, but a sign that can come from any part of the digestive tract. The brighter the blood, the lower its source tends to be: scarlet blood on toilet paper is more often associated with hemorrhoids or anal fissure, dark mixed blood with the colon, and black, tarry stool with the stomach or duodenum. Even if a person is sure that the problem is hemorrhoids, it is impossible to attribute the blood only to hemorrhoids: polyps, inflammatory bowel diseases and a tumor may be hidden under the same picture. Therefore, any episode of blood in the stool is a reason to be examined.

Drug-induced (toxic) liver damage
The liver neutralizes almost everything that enters the body, which is why it is the first to suffer from drugs, herbal remedies and dietary supplements. The damage can be predictable and dose-dependent, as with an overdose of antipyretics with paracetamol, or individual and unpredictable, in which case it develops in individual people on normal doses. Manifestations are varied: from asymptomatic increases in liver enzymes in tests to jaundice, skin itching and severe liver failure. The main thing in treatment is to recognize the connection with the drug in time and stop taking it in consultation with the doctor. Most cases result in complete recovery.

Pancreatic lipomatosis (fat replacement)
Pancreatic lipomatosis is the replacement of part of the working tissue of the organ with fat cells. The formulation is most often first seen in the ultrasound report: the doctor describes the increased echogenicity and heterogeneity of the gland. This in itself is not a tumor or inflammation, but a metabolic condition closely associated with excess weight, fatty liver disease, high sugar and high triglyceride levels. Many people have no complaints at all. Lipomatosis is alarming because it serves as a marker of metabolic disorders, and with pronounced replacement, the production of enzymes and insulin may decrease over time. The good news is that the process is partially reversible with weight loss.

Megacolon
Megacolon is a persistent dilatation of the large intestine with impaired emptying. The intestine loses the ability to effectively move the contents, it accumulates, stretches the wall, and a vicious circle closes: the stronger the stretch, the weaker the contractions. Megacolon manifests itself as long-term persistent constipation, bloating, abdominal enlargement and a feeling of fullness. The reasons are different: congenital absence of nerve cells in the intestinal region, nerve damage due to illness and medication, mechanical obstruction. Separately, toxic megacolon is an acute, life-threatening condition caused by severe inflammation or infection of the intestines, requiring immediate hospitalization.

Liver metastases
Liver metastases are secondary tumor foci that form when cells from a malignant tumor from another organ enter the liver. It is affected more often than other organs because blood from the entire intestine passes through it: this is why hepatic lesions are especially characteristic of colon, stomach and pancreatic cancer, as well as breast, lung and melanoma. For a long time, metastases do not manifest themselves in any way and are detected during routine ultrasound or CT. It is important to understand: a lesion found in the liver is not always malignant, and a clarifying examination is necessary.

Flatulence (bloating)
Flatulence is an excessive accumulation of gases in the intestines, which is manifested by bloating, distension, rumbling and frequent release of gases. Every person produces a small amount of gas: it enters the stomach when swallowing air and is produced by bacteria when food is digested. Bloating becomes a problem when there is too much gas, it does not move well through the intestines, or the intestines are too sensitive to distension. Most often, the reason lies in diet, habits or functional disorders, but sometimes bloating is a symptom of food intolerance, diseases of the pancreas, intestines or even a tumor. Therefore, persistent flatulence requires the attention of a doctor.

Obstructive jaundice
Obstructive jaundice occurs when bile cannot pass from the liver to the intestines due to an obstruction in the bile ducts. Bilirubin accumulates in the blood, giving the skin and sclera a yellow tint, urine darkens, and feces, on the contrary, become discolored, because it is bile that gives it its usual color.
