Liver hemangioma
Hemangioma is the most common benign liver tumor, which is a tangle of dilated vessels surrounded by normal liver tissue. This is not cancer or a precancerous condition: it does not degenerate into a malignant tumor, does not disrupt liver function, and in the vast majority of cases does not require treatment. It is found accidentally during an ultrasound performed for any reason, more often in middle-aged women. Most hemangiomas are small, stable in size and do not cause complaints. The main task of the doctor is to reliably confirm the benign nature of the formation, which sometimes requires tomography with contrast, and to reassure the patient.

Hemochromatosis (excess iron in the body)
Hemochromatosis is a condition in which the body, over the years, absorbs more iron from food than it needs and stores the excess in the organs. Most often, the cause is hereditary: due to genetic characteristics, the regulation of absorption in the intestine is disrupted. Iron accumulates in the liver, pancreas, heart, joints and pituitary gland and gradually damages them. Early complaints are nonspecific - fatigue, pain in the joints of the fingers, decreased libido, so the disease is often discovered by chance due to high ferritin. If the overload is identified before the development of cirrhosis and diabetes, treatment with simple bloodletting returns the person to normal life expectancy, and the organs are partially restored.

Dühring's dermatitis herpetiformis
Dühring's dermatitis herpetiformis is a skin manifestation of gluten intolerance. In people with celiac disease, the immune system reacts to the grain protein, and the resulting antibodies are deposited in the papillae of the skin, causing inflammation. Small blisters and nodules appear on sharply itchy red spots located symmetrically on the elbows, knees, buttocks, shoulders and scalp. The itching and burning can be so severe that a person scratches the rash before he has time to examine it. Intestinal complaints are often absent, although there are usually changes in the small intestine. The basis of treatment is a lifelong gluten-free diet.

Bitterness in the mouth
Bitterness in the mouth is a sensation of bitter taste that may appear in the morning, after eating, or persist constantly. People usually associate it with the liver and “stagnation of bile,” but in practice the reasons are much more varied. A bitter or sour taste often causes stomach contents to reflux into the esophagus during reflux disease. Bitterness occurs with diseases of the gums and teeth, dry mouth, after smoking and alcohol, while taking antibiotics and other medications, with taste disturbances after ARVI. Only in some cases the cause is related to the gallbladder. Therefore, treating “bitterness” with choleretic drugs at random is not the best way.

Diverticulosis and diverticulitis of the colon
Diverticula are small pouch-like protrusions of the intestinal wall that most often form in the sigmoid colon in people over 50 years of age. Their presence is called diverticulosis; in most people it is asymptomatic and is discovered incidentally during a colonoscopy or CT scan. If the diverticulum becomes inflamed, diverticulitis develops - with pain in the left lower abdomen, fever and changes in bowel movements. Diverticulitis can be complicated by an abscess, bowel perforation, fistula, or bleeding. Proper nutrition and timely treatment of inflammation allow most patients to do without surgery.

Intestinal dysbiosis
Dysbacteriosis is a disorder in the composition of the intestinal microflora. In the CIS countries, this term is very popular and is often made as an independent diagnosis for any abdominal complaints, but in international medical practice there is no such disease. Changes in microflora do occur - after antibiotics, intestinal infections, in diseases of the stomach, intestines, liver and pancreas - but this is a consequence, not a cause. Therefore, it is useless to treat “dysbiosis” with endless courses of probiotics: you need to find the disease that causes bloating, unstable stools and pain, and treat it specifically.

Biliary dyskinesia
Biliary dyskinesia is a functional disorder in which the contraction of the gallbladder or the functioning of the sphincter of Oddi, which regulates the flow of bile into the duodenum, is impaired. There are no stones, inflammation or other structural changes, but the bile is discharged untimely or in the wrong volume. This manifests itself as attacks of dull or bursting pain in the right hypochondrium, often after fatty foods. The diagnosis of VHD is made very often in the CIS countries - often only by ultrasound and without typical complaints. According to modern international criteria, it is established only after excluding cholelithiasis, ulcers, pancreatitis and other causes of pain.

Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction
The sphincter of Oddi is a circular muscle at the junction of the bile and pancreatic ducts into the duodenum. It opens, allowing bile and pancreatic juice to pass through to food, and closes the rest of the time. When dysfunction occurs, the sphincter spasms or scars, the outflow is disrupted, the pressure in the ducts increases - an attack of pain occurs in the right hypochondrium or in the pit of the stomach. Most often, people encounter this after removal of the gallbladder, when the pain for which the operation was performed unexpectedly returns. It is important that stones, tumors and pancreatitis give rise to similar attacks, so first rule them out, and only then talk about a functional disorder.

Dolichosigma
Dolichosigma is an elongation of the sigmoid colon, the final section of the large intestine in front of the rectum. Elongation itself often occurs in completely healthy people and is considered an anatomical feature, not a disease. Problems appear when, due to the greater length and additional loops, the contents move more slowly: water is absorbed more strongly, feces become compacted, chronic constipation, bloating and pain in the abdomen occur, often on the left. In children, this feature is often identified during examination for persistent constipation. Tactics in most cases are conservative: nutrition, drinking regimen, movement and mild laxatives under the supervision of a doctor.

Duodenostasis and duodenogastric reflux
Duodenostasis is a violation of the movement of contents through the duodenum, due to which it stagnates and is thrown back into the stomach. This reverse flow is called duodenogastric reflux. Along with the contents, bile acids and pancreatic enzymes enter the stomach, which are aggressive for its mucosa: a special form of gastritis develops, and with further reflux, the esophagus also suffers. A person is bothered by bitterness in the mouth, nausea, heaviness after eating and a burning sensation that is poorly relieved by conventional heartburn remedies. The causes are functional and mechanical, and the choice of treatment depends on this.
