Colds (ARVI) during pregnancy
A cold during pregnancy is an acute respiratory viral infection that occurs in much the same way as outside of pregnancy, but requires a more careful approach to medications. The immune system of the expectant mother works in a special mode, so respiratory diseases occur more often, and the flu can be more severe, with a greater risk of complications. For a child, it is not so much the cold itself that is dangerous, but high temperature, severe intoxication and uncontrolled use of drugs. Most acute respiratory viral infections go away in 5–7 days with home treatment, plenty of fluids and symptomatic remedies agreed with the doctor.

Hydatidiform mole (trophoblastic disease)
Hydatidiform mole is a developmental disorder of pregnancy in which, instead of a normal embryo and placenta, chorion tissue grows in the form of many small bubbles. This is a consequence of a failure during fertilization: the set of chromosomes turns out to be incorrect. In this case, pregnancy feels like normal, and sometimes even brighter: severe nausea, the uterus is older than the term, very high hCG. Then bloody discharge appears. The condition is classified as a trophoblastic disease, and although most cases are completely cured by removal of the contents of the uterus, in some women the tissue continues to grow, so long-term follow-up with hCG analysis is required after treatment.

Rh conflict during pregnancy
Rh conflict - incompatibility of the blood of mother and child according to the Rh factor. It is possible when a woman has Rh-negative blood, and the child inherits Rh-positive blood from his father. If fetal red blood cells enter the mother's bloodstream—usually during childbirth, abortion, miscarriage, hemorrhage, or injury—her immune system produces anti-Rh antibodies. In the next pregnancy, they penetrate the placenta and destroy the red blood cells of the Rh-positive child, causing hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn: anemia, edema, jaundice. The first pregnancy usually proceeds without conflict. Thanks to the timely administration of anti-Rhesus immunoglobulin, most cases can be prevented.

Retrochorial hematoma
Retrochorial hematoma is an accumulation of blood between the chorion, the future placenta, and the wall of the uterus in early pregnancy. It is formed when a small section of the chorion is partially separated and small vessels are damaged. It usually manifests itself as spotting brown or bloody discharge and nagging pain in the lower abdomen, but is often detected on ultrasound in the complete absence of complaints. The prognosis is often favorable: small hematomas gradually resolve or empty, and the pregnancy develops normally. However, any bleeding during pregnancy requires examination by a doctor, and not self-prescription of drugs.

Symphysitis during pregnancy
Symphysitis is pain and increased mobility in the symphysis pubis, the junction of the two pubic bones. During pregnancy, the body produces relaxin and progesterone, which soften the pelvic ligaments, preparing the birth canal for the passage of the child. In some women, the ligaments stretch excessively, the joint becomes unstable, and characteristic pain appears in the pubis, radiating to the groin and inner thighs. It becomes especially noticeable that it becomes difficult to turn over in bed, climb stairs and stand on one leg. The condition is unpleasant, but in the vast majority of cases it goes away in the first weeks or months after childbirth.

Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome
Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is a complication of infertility treatment that occurs after stimulation of ovulation, most often in in vitro fertilization programs. The ovaries respond excessively to drugs, enlarge, and the vessels become permeable: the liquid part of the blood leaves the vessels into the abdominal cavity. Bloating, heaviness and pain in the lower abdomen, rapid weight gain, nausea, and, in severe cases, shortness of breath and a decrease in the amount of urine appear. Mild forms are common and go away on their own; severe forms require hospitalization due to the risk of blood thickening and thrombosis. Knowing the warning signs is important for every woman undergoing stimulation.

Sheehan syndrome (postpartum hypopituitarism)
Sheehan syndrome is pituitary insufficiency that develops after childbirth, complicated by large blood loss and a drop in pressure. During pregnancy, the pituitary gland enlarges and becomes very sensitive to a lack of blood supply, so during massive bleeding, some of its cells die. As a result, the body lacks the hormones that control the thyroid, adrenal glands, ovaries and milk production. The first sign is usually a lack of milk, then menstruation does not return, weakness, chilliness, hair loss, and decreased blood pressure increase. The diagnosis is often made late, although replacement therapy quickly returns the woman to normal health.

Subinvolution of the uterus after childbirth
Uterine subinvolution is a slow reverse development of the uterus after childbirth. Normally, an organ that has increased tenfold during pregnancy returns to its previous size in about six weeks, and the discharge gradually becomes lighter and stops. With subinvolution, the uterus remains large and soft, bleeding prolongs, and nagging pain appears in the lower abdomen. This in itself is not a disease, but a sign that something is interfering with contraction: remnants of placental tissue, clots, inflammation or overdistension during childbirth. The danger is that stagnation of the contents easily turns into inflammation of the uterus, so the condition requires examination and ultrasound.

Breech presentation of the fetus
Breech presentation is a position in which the baby faces the exit of the uterus with his buttocks or legs, rather than his head. Until the middle of pregnancy, the baby turns over freely, and this position is considered normal. It becomes important after 32–34 weeks, when there is less space in the uterus and the likelihood of spontaneous rotation decreases. Breech presentation is not a disease or a sign of the child’s distress, but it changes the birth plan: the doctor assesses the size of the pelvis, the weight of the fetus, the type of presentation and suggests either an external rotation, a cesarean section, or a natural birth in experienced hands.

Toxicosis during pregnancy
Toxicosis during pregnancy is nausea and vomiting that occurs in most women in the first trimester. They usually begin at 5–6 weeks, are most pronounced at 8–10 weeks, and disappear by 16–20 weeks. The exact cause has not been established: the leading role is given to the pregnancy hormone hCG, estrogens and individual sensitivity. Mild toxicosis does not harm the child and is alleviated by changes in diet. A severe form is dangerous - uncontrollable vomiting of pregnant women, in which a woman loses weight, does not retain fluid and develops dehydration. She needs to be treated by a doctor, sometimes in a hospital. Any medications for a pregnant woman are prescribed only by an obstetrician-gynecologist.
