Pyelonephritis during pregnancy
Pyelonephritis during pregnancy is an inflammation of the renal pelvis and kidney tissue caused by bacteria, most often Escherichia coli. During pregnancy, progesterone relaxes the ureters, and the growing uterus squeezes them, so urine flows more slowly and the infection rises up from the bladder more easily. The disease usually begins in the second or third trimester and presents with high fever, chills and lower back pain. This is not a condition that can be treated at home with herbs: untreated pyelonephritis increases the risk of premature birth and sepsis, so it almost always requires hospitalization and antibiotics that are safe during pregnancy.

High blood pressure during pregnancy
Gestational hypertension - increased blood pressure up to 140/90 mmHg. Art. and higher, first occurring after the 20th week of pregnancy, without protein in the urine and signs of organ damage. It is distinguished from chronic hypertension, which was present before pregnancy or detected before 20 weeks. The reasons are related to changes in the blood vessels and the functioning of the placenta. Gestational hypertension often occurs without complaints, but in some women it develops into preeclampsia, a dangerous condition for mother and child. Therefore, if you have high blood pressure, you need regular monitoring at home, urine tests and observation by an obstetrician-gynecologist. After birth, blood pressure usually returns to normal within 12 weeks.

Postpartum depression
Postpartum depression is a depressive disorder that develops during the first weeks and months after childbirth. This is not a weakness of character or “bad motherhood,” but a disease associated with sudden hormonal changes, lack of sleep, stress and psychological factors. The woman experiences persistent melancholy, anxiety, guilt, is not happy about the child, loses strength and interest in life. Unlike short-term “baby blues,” symptoms last longer than two weeks and interfere with caring for yourself and your baby. Without treatment, depression can linger and affect relationships with your child and family. Postpartum depression is well treated with psychotherapy and medications compatible with feeding. If your child is thinking about suicide or harming himself, he needs immediate help.

Postpartum hemorrhage
Postpartum hemorrhage is excessive blood loss after the birth of a baby. It remains one of the main causes of severe complications in postpartum women around the world, and in most cases it can be prevented and successfully stopped. Early bleeding occurs on the first day, most often due to the fact that the uterus contracts poorly, later - within six weeks after birth, usually due to the remains of placental tissue or inflammation. It is important for a woman to know the danger signs already at home: excessive discharge, large clots, dizziness and rapid heartbeat require an immediate call to 103.

Postpartum thyroiditis
Postpartum thyroiditis is an autoimmune inflammation of the thyroid gland that develops in the first year after childbirth. During pregnancy, the immune system works more restrained, and after childbirth its activity is restored, and in predisposed women this leads to an attack on its own thyroid gland. Classically, the disease goes through several phases: first, an excess of hormones due to the destruction of gland cells with palpitations and irritability, then a lack of hormones with weakness, chilliness and swelling, and in most cases, recovery. Symptoms can easily be attributed to fatigue and worries about the child, so the diagnosis is often made late. Simple blood tests help figure it out.

Postpartum endometritis
Postpartum endometritis is a bacterial inflammation of the inner lining of the uterus that occurs in the first days or weeks after childbirth. After the birth of the placenta, a large wound surface remains on the wall of the uterus, and the cervical canal is open, so microbes from the vagina easily enter. More often, the disease develops after a cesarean section, a long anhydrous period and retained parts of the placenta. It is manifested by fever, pain in the lower abdomen and cloudy discharge with an unpleasant odor. This is an emergency condition: without treatment, inflammation can spread to the entire uterus and peritoneum, so if you have a fever after childbirth, you should consult a doctor immediately.

Placenta previa
Placenta previa is a condition in which the placenta attaches to the lower part of the uterus and partially or completely blocks the internal os of the cervix, that is, the baby's path to birth. Low placentation - when the placenta does not cover the pharynx, but is located close to it. On ultrasound in the second trimester, a low location is often found, and as the uterus grows, the placenta “rises” in most women. If the presentation persists towards the end of pregnancy, there is a risk of bleeding, sometimes sudden and heavy. The main symptom is painless, scarlet-colored bleeding. A woman with a breech presentation needs observation, gentle care and a pre-planned birth, usually by caesarean section.

Premature placental abruption
Premature placental abruption is a condition in which the placenta is partially or completely separated from the wall of the uterus before the baby is born. Blood accumulates between the placenta and the uterus, the area for oxygen exchange is reduced, and the baby begins to suffer from hypoxia, and the woman loses blood and may experience coagulation disorders. This is an obstetric emergency: if there is sudden abdominal pain, spotting, uterine tension, or a sudden change in movements, you need to immediately call 103. The outcome largely depends on how quickly the woman ends up in the hospital, so you can’t wait and watch at home.

Premature birth
Premature birth is birth occurring from the 22nd to the end of the 37th week of pregnancy. A child is born premature, and the shorter the term, the more immature his lungs, brain, and intestines are, and the higher the need for intensive care. The reasons are varied: infection, premature rupture of membranes, short cervix, multiple pregnancy, preeclampsia and other complications when childbirth has to be carried out early. It is impossible to prevent all cases, but in women at risk, the cervix can be measured in advance and prevention can be applied. If there are signs of the onset of labor, it is important to quickly get to the hospital: a few days gained allow you to speed up the maturation of the baby’s lungs and transport the mother to the perinatal center.

Preeclampsia (preeclampsia)
Preeclampsia is a complication of pregnancy, in which after the 20th week blood pressure rises to 140/90 or higher and protein appears in the urine or signs of damage to other organs: kidneys, liver, brain, coagulation system. It is based on a violation of the formation of blood vessels in the placenta, which causes the vessels of the entire mother’s body and the child’s nutrition to suffer. Preeclampsia can be almost asymptomatic for a long time, and then quickly worsen to eclampsia with convulsions, HELLP syndrome, placental abruption. This is why regular blood pressure measurements and urine tests at every visit are so important. Preeclampsia can only be cured by the birth of a child and placenta, and doctors select a safe moment for this.
