Hemorrhoids during pregnancy
Hemorrhoids during pregnancy are enlargement and inflammation of the cavernous plexuses of the rectum and anus. It worsens in many women, and the reasons are natural: the growing uterus compresses the pelvic veins, progesterone relaxes the vascular wall and slows down the intestines, and blood volume is increased. Add to this constipation and straining - and the nodes swell, begin to hurt and bleed. During childbirth, the pressure on the plexuses increases sharply, so often the first exacerbation occurs precisely after pushing. The good news is that most women's condition improves after childbirth, and safe treatment is possible during pregnancy.

Gestational diabetes mellitus
Gestational diabetes mellitus is an increase in blood glucose levels that is first detected during pregnancy and does not reach the criteria for overt diabetes. Placental hormones reduce tissue sensitivity to insulin, and if the pancreas cannot cope with the increased load, sugar increases. A woman usually does not feel anything, so the diagnosis is made only by tests: fasting venous blood glucose or a glucose tolerance test at 24–28 weeks. Without control, excess glucose leads to a large fetus, complications during childbirth, and hypoglycemia in the newborn. With proper nutrition, sufficient activity and self-control, most pregnancies proceed safely. After childbirth, diabetes usually goes away, but the risk of type 2 diabetes remains increased.

Fetal hypoxia
Fetal hypoxia is a condition in which the baby in the uterus does not receive enough oxygen. It can be chronic, developing gradually when the placenta malfunctions, and acute, occurring suddenly - for example, with placental abruption or compression of the umbilical cord. The child compensates for the lack of oxygen for a long time by redistributing blood flow to the brain and heart, so there may be no obvious signs. The most accessible guide for the expectant mother is the nature of the movements: their noticeable decrease or unusual behavior requires contacting a doctor on the same day. The child’s condition is assessed using CTG, ultrasound and Doppler.

Hypothyroidism during pregnancy
Hypothyroidism during pregnancy is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones to meet the increased needs of the mother and fetus. In the first trimester, the child is completely dependent on the mother's thyroxine, because his own thyroid gland does not yet work, and hormones are needed for the formation of the brain. Therefore, even a moderate increase in TSH in a pregnant woman requires attention, and not observation “before birth.” The most common cause is autoimmune thyroiditis; less commonly, hypothyroidism occurs after surgery or treatment with radioactive iodine. The condition is easily correctable: the selected dose of the hormone allows most women to have a healthy pregnancy.

Headache during pregnancy
Headaches during pregnancy are very common. In the first trimester, it is usually associated with hormonal changes, lack of sleep, nausea and dehydration, giving up the usual coffee and a decrease in sugar levels during long breaks in food. Most of these pains are harmless and can be treated with simple measures. However, pregnancy is a situation where any new or changing headache needs to be assessed differently than usual. In the second half of pregnancy, a headache may be the first sign of preeclampsia, a high blood pressure condition that is dangerous for both the woman and the baby. Therefore, if the pain is severe or unusual, you should measure your blood pressure and contact your doctor.

Diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles
Diastasis is the divergence of the rectus abdominis muscles to the sides with stretching of the linea alba between them. It is not a hernia: there is no defect through which the organs emerge; the connective tissue plate itself is stretched. Most often, diastasis appears after pregnancy, when the growing uterus gradually expands the muscles, as well as with significant weight gain and regular straining. It manifests itself as a convex ridge along the midline when raising the head from a lying position, a belly that does not decrease after childbirth, and sometimes pain in the lower back and weakness of the abs. In the first months after birth, the discrepancy often decreases on its own.

Fetal growth restriction (IUGR)
Fetal growth restriction is a condition in which the baby in the womb grows slower than it should for its age, most often due to the fact that the placenta does not provide it with enough oxygen and nutrients. It is important to distinguish this from a constitutionally low birth weight fetus: such a child is simply small for hereditary reasons, develops normally and does not suffer. Doppler testing helps to separate these conditions - the study of blood flow in the vessels of the uterus, umbilical cord and the fetus itself. Growth retardation requires observation and sometimes early delivery, so regular ultrasound scans in the second half of pregnancy make direct practical sense.

Constipation during pregnancy
Constipation during pregnancy is a rare, difficult or incomplete bowel movement that occurs in approximately every third woman. The main reason is that progesterone relaxes the smooth muscles of the intestine and slows down the movement of contents, and in the later stages, the enlarged uterus mechanically compresses the intestine. Additional contributions include iron and calcium supplements, decreased physical activity, and lack of fluids. Constipation does not just cause discomfort: straining provokes exacerbation of hemorrhoids and anal fissures. It is almost always possible to cope with it with nutrition, regimen and mild remedies selected by the doctor.

Heartburn during pregnancy
Heartburn during pregnancy is a burning sensation behind the breastbone that occurs when the acidic contents of the stomach are thrown into the esophagus. Most women face this, especially in the second half of their term. The reason is twofold: progesterone relaxes the muscular ring between the esophagus and the stomach, and the growing uterus lifts the stomach up and increases pressure in the abdominal cavity. Heartburn is unpleasant, interferes with sleep and eating, but in itself does not harm the baby and usually goes away immediately after birth. It can be alleviated by changing your diet and regimen, and in case of severe complaints, the doctor selects safe medications.

Isthmic-cervical insufficiency
Isthmic-cervical insufficiency is a condition in which the cervix during pregnancy begins to shorten and open prematurely, unable to withstand the growing load. The danger is that this usually happens painlessly and without contractions, so the woman may not feel anything until a late miscarriage or very early premature birth. The main way to identify the problem in time is to measure the length of the cervix with ultrasound, that is, cervicometry, which is carried out in the second trimester. If shortening is confirmed, progesterone, an obstetric pessary, or a suture on the cervix are used.
