After losing 20–40+ kg, the skin loses its contractility - large flaps are excised, sometimes with a vertical component (fleur-de-lis) for the waist; diastasis and hernias are closed with mesh reinforcement; drainages last longer, observation is more careful (prevention of seromas and marginal necrosis, especially in ex-smokers). A six-day hospital stay provides a safe start. Compression for 8 weeks, lymphatic drainage massage from 2–3 weeks; final contour - by 6 months. This is often the final stage of a patient's bariatric journey.
Indications
- skin-fat “apron” after childbirth and significant weight loss;
- diastasis of the rectus muscles with protrusion and back pain;
- stretched skin with stretch marks below the navel, contour deformation;
- combination with hernias of the white line and umbilical (simultaneous plastic surgery).
What does abdominoplasty give?
The operation solves three problems simultaneously: removes excess skin and fat (apron), restores the muscle corset by suturing the diastasis along the entire length and forms an aesthetic contour with a new position of the navel. In case of concomitant hernias, their repair with mesh is performed in the same operation - according to the price list, the mini-option already includes a mesh implant. Conditions for success: stable weight (surgery is not a method of losing weight), quitting smoking within a month, compression and patience - the final result is assessed after six months.
